Hehe. Like unwrapping some piece of art, honestly. Everything's so neat in there I almost had qualms unboxing it
The Klipsch HP3 is the only item that compares to the Z1R unboxing.

Big glass case with the headphones disassembled and fitted in the wooden box pieces. I bought another HP3 just for display in my cinema room.

Despite the fact that it is many years old, this headset is among the best in its sound aspect.

I still do not see any rival that can replace it in the way it is heard, I think that if sony released a z1r with better details, better mids, better treble, it can once be considered as good

Compared to the OEM cable, the BSEP tightens the bass a bit, elevates the vocal slightly and make vocal (esp. female) sound more real/dense , the treble is about the same to me (but I can't hear anything beyond about 13khz due to my ear ringing). Don't know about other cables.
low end is tighter, mids are a tad more forward, highs are highs still. the separation/imaging are better, to me. stage seems about equal.

Downside of the Z1R: it's complicated to listen to anything else after those. Yikes.

This is for me the biggest issue. Z1R is made to sound to impress, and it causes such an impact at first. Eventually it wears off and becomes the new baseline.

Until you try to listen to your other earphones and you just can’t, because they sound so bad in comparison.

I am now thinking about selling my whole collection and just keeping Z1R and M9.

I used to be very impressed at the N3 bass for example, it was big but still dense and impactful. Now it doesn’t sound that great anymore.
