What “gain” setting do you run on your DAP with the IER-Z1R?

And everyone else — please feel free to chime in… trying to decide if ‘Low’ gain is enough, or whether my brains is playing tricks on me that ‘High/Turbo’ sounds better…

Low gain, Volume at 40 - if wanna boost a bit, i change the volume to 45, never tried Mid or Hi gain so far on this one.

Grabbed a used DX300 couple of days ago(around $850). Having WM1A, I can vouch DX300 is better pairing with Z1R. I never thought Z1R can sound even better (immediately noticeable when i first hear it). Its true then, that Z1R scale better with the source.

Now I’m itching to get DX300 MaxTi. But portability wise dx300 is great. Love the big screen, great battery and streaming capabilities.

I have the WM1A too. Love the sound especially with Mr.Walkman's firmware mods, but would love to stream loseless apple music. Downloading music is getting harder and more expensive to do unfortunately.

Do you think because the dx300 has more power than wm1a, therefore it drives the Z1Rs better? Therefore better synergy as you have mentioned?

Which amp module are you using? I tried it thanks to @DarginMahkum - he told me he had at the time the amp 11 MK 1. To be hon st i die not like the sound of it partly because i had demoed the DMP-Z1 the monday before

I’m not sure, but i do think power is one of the reason, by power i dont mean z1r is hard to drive, more like dx300 deliver it better (efficiency, just like M1 chip?). Maybe try to imagine leaded and unleaded gas/petrol and feed it to your car(z1r). Can take both but better with the other. Thats the only metaphor i could think off.

The quality of a recording has little to do with the resolution…Equally a good system can draw out more from a ‘cd quality file’ than a lesser system can from a hi-res file. As a good friend of mine used to say ‘ a better recording improves that album, a better system improves all albums…’
