SONY IER-Z1R

If you can get your hands on an iBasso DX300 Max, that would be what I would recommend. It is the best portable sound I’ve heard with Z1R. My next choice would be the Shanling M8.

Both of those daps outclass the WM1Z for sound synergy with Z1R imo.
Can confirm the pairing of IER Z1R (and also the MDR Z1R) is excellent with Shanling M8.

Been caught myself staring at the Perlage faceplate on the Z1R for minutes playing with how light reflect off it. Both Z1Rs are similar in that their side look is really one of a kind and instantly recognizeable because of it.

I would totally recommend the Dx300Max Titanium !!! I have never heard the Z1R to perform this way, even out of the DMP Z1. There are some strange elements at plays here, possibly the impedances and the synergies matching
I'm compelled to ask what you think of another iBasso product vs the DX300Max: the DX312 (DX300 with amp12) or DX300 (non-max) -- with the Z1R, of course, since this is a Z1R thread. If Max tops them all for synergy with the Z1R, might it be the 8.8 Vrms balanced ouput vs 8.3 Vrms/7.1 Vrms of the other two? If I didn't use my DX312 exclusively Line Out to an external amp, I'd likely seize on your comment to (try) get a Max. Truth! :L3000: And if it's not just a question of power (and I gather it's not), well... food for thought.

So, Max Titanium over Max SS?
I did not get to hear the SS, so I can’t tell you. However, I have friends who did, and commented on the Ti-SS matter which I trusted very much. I also have enough experiences to tell you that the Titanium + Z1R is something very unique, that you have to listen to believe

Thanks. Both PO and Line Out, then? (Regardless of external amping.)

Why would you want to listen to LO with Z1R ? That is for external amplifier.

When speaking of LO into external amplifier. The Ibasso DX300Max Titanium is special enough to invokes me to build a high end headphones amplifier for it, just to maximize the benefit of having the DAP, either on the go or sitting on my bed.

After I built my amplifier, I got a confirmation that the 3MTi is a monster of a value and something to be hold for many years to come. I am glad I bought the DAP and built the amp

The amp was built with many upgrades and modifications, including Western Electric 300B tubes 😆

Most impressive! Yes, a 3MTi difference even if LO to external amp, as you have done. You've answered the question. :)
