Sony has new headphones, MDR-1R

Well it looks like my MDR-1R should be shipping on the 19th so I should have it by the end of next week at the latest whoohoo! :)

I have my SRH-1440 and possibly 940 to compare it against. I really hope I like it but did buy from Sony Canada direct so I have an easy return path at one of their local stores if unhappy. Have say my last 2 Sony purchases have been great though so am very hopeful the MDR1R will follow the same path.

I'm working on a review of the MDR-1R NC with comparisons with the Bose QC-15 as well as pairing them with Sony's PHA-1, Fostex HP_P1 and VentureCraft GoDAP 4.0 (Muse). I hope to have something by next week.

That should be an interesting review. I really want to find some headphones that cancel noise like the Bose but sound decent.
Look forward to hearing about your experience!

Just because how delicious they look i hope they sound great.
Sony Finland seems to be selling them directly for 279€, that's not bad at all. Got a see what the shops are asking from them when they really start going rounds. Though if they sound great i'm more than happy to put down that 279€.

What cables does the retail package come with? Is there an Android-compatible cable included?

2 cables, straight audio and a 3-button. Whether it works with Android I don't know since I don't own an Android phone.

I was surprised to read that these are not as bassy as intended. Thanks for the comparison, Anakchan!
This might actually be a good thing as I listen to a lot of rock/metal.
If someone could tell me how [the Gazette - Kago no Sanagi] sounds like with the MDR-1R, I would appreciate it! Is it completely clear? Can you follow all the bass kicks very easily? How do they cymbals sound?
Its between the 1R, M80/100 for me.

EDIT: I found out there is no good quality upload of this on youtube. There is a stupid shortened version and a reduced vocal one. So how about this song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_qdlf-g9sk
