well.. you have objective measurements but sound is something people perceive subjectively. I really realy liked the HD10 it felw really alive and i could wear them for hours. h.ear are very good, as i wrote, but i had more fun listening to HD10, which have better sound stage and are quite cheaper as well.

I find the Sony MDR-10R to be better sounding compared to the ZX770BTs, especially with a slight tweak with EQ app.
The MDR-10R definitely works well when fed higher quality tracks...24/96 or FLAC...MP3 320kbs are ok.

I'm just seeing if the $120 is justified for the upgrade to the MDR-100AAP?

I'm unable to return the MDR-10R and would need to sell it first...

Interesting.  Better soundstage you say?  Hmmm, I wonder where I could demo a pair. . . . . .

what aspect of the 10R did you like more the the 770BT? Of you prefered the midrange of the 10R more then you like a warmer signature in which case stick with the 10R and if you find a really good deal on the 1A buy it as your upgrade. Of on the other hand you just like the bass more then the 100AAP would be a good candidate as it combines a similar midrange and treble plus bigger bass than the 770BT. I owned the 10RBT as well and gave it away this summer (regretted that decision a bit but wanted my friend to have a good headphone) and I did prefer the 10RBT to the 770BT so understand you like of that headphone.

Ok better way of saying all this.

100AAP is a direct upgrade to the 770BT as they are similar sonically.

1A/R is a direct upgrade from the 10R as they are similar sonically.

I just got the MDR-10R for under $80 on Amazon.
I was wondering how the MDR-100AAP compare...vastly better?

My main source will be my LG V10 and I listen to Jazz, Top 40 POP, R&B, Classical and Dance (House/Trance).

Just would like some advice if it is worth upgrading(?)

Nice deal.

YES upgrade to 100AAP.

Hard (impossible?) to beat the 100AAP in its price range which is more than double what you paid.

So... good deal for what it is. MDR 10R is okay but still not great audio - acceptable for $80, I'd say.

100AAP is fantastic for $180.

Use your MR 10R's for a while until 100AAP's start showing up on a discount.

OR grab one of the few remaining Yamaha MT220. THAT is a bargain if it's under $150.

Mate, there is nothing wrong with the MDR 10R - they are fine. It's a good headphone. Top end clarity (highs) is not perfect but better than any beats will do. You got a really great deal. Don't sell them. Enjoy them, they sound pretty good. The 100AAP cost more and they sound better but that's only if you've heard them. If you haven't, fine.

I haven't heard Sennheiser HD800's so I don't really care what they're like. I'm fine at the moment thanks. And also 700 quid still in my bank account, not in Sennheiser's :)

I agree there's nothing wrong with the 10R, but I still think the 100AAP is a HUGE step up from it.

For one thing, the 10R have a very unbalanced signature. . .super-boosted mid-bass with very lacking sub-bass.

Looks like the MDR-10R is a keeper...just found out that it is part of my Christmas gift from my wife.
I can't sell them now...will enjoy them for a while and see what else Sony has for us in the future. I will keep an eye out for price drops on either the MDR-100AAP or MDR-1A/R.
Since I've not yet listened to either one of them, I don't know what I'm missing...the MDR-10R works well for 90% of my listening enjoyment.

It's all in your ears and head... I love the MDR-1A compared against the 100AAP... Depends on your preferences I guess...

As @gelocks said above, it all depends on a person's preferences.  Personally, I much prefer the 100AAP over the MDR-1A.

I would have liked something in between. I preferred the MDR 1 A, but really hesitated a long time. Tha 1 A would have been perfect if just a bit more upper mids. The 100 AAP is then brighter, but then too much again. I just got faster bored with that over bright sound, and can wear the 1 A for hours.

Hello everyone! I made a page for the MDR-100AAP, they weren't on the catalog of headphones here on Head-Fi. Feel free to make reviews now! Let's get the word out about these special cans! They should be more popular on Head-Fi.  http://www.head-fi.org/products/sony-h-ear-on-mdr-100aap#

Also, look out for my impressions in a few days!
