You won't believe how good the CD2000 is until you plug it into a right setup. The drivers of the CD2000 are so sensitive that I can hear differences of sounds on the left and right channels, even at a low volume level.

Using the Metric Halo ULN-2 and the CD2000 (driven by a decent SS amp) reminded us of the ATH-L3000's details and bass quality with better transparency.

My comment on the CD2000 was based on the impression taken from reviews of many senior headfiers from years past. I have never had a pleasure of owning the CD2000 or listening to them. I, however, was one of the early adopter of the CD1700 and CD3000 back in 2001 so I'm very familiar with those two. I still wish I kept my CD3000

Actually I sold an F1 a couple of months ago,and now regret it,Sony have some weird and wonderful phones that grow on you.

ok, great! my 1 year old pads are starting to flake! I guess a 3 days old beard is a big no-no w/ these pads

shave daily or fear the consequences! so take it in account for the cd3k(if you wear a beard on purpose, forget it

)...its two drawbacks to me are 1)weight, the cups are damn heavy(can't imagine the headphile treatment) 2)the pads need you to keep a baby skin, otherwise the mix of sweat+beard will let them desintegrate sooner that you'd think

Can some of you name the similarities and the differences between the CD1700 and the CD3000?

I just had a chance to try the CD3000 CD2000 and CD1700 driven by my Metric Halo ULN-2.

The CD3000 sounds so fantastic and very pleasing !! IMHO, it is one of the best headphones you can find.

It falls between the CD2000 (*very* detailed, fast and extended) and the CD1700 (lovely vocal, airy, wider sound stage). In short, the CD3000 combines the best of the other two cans.

I agree with a friend of mine that the CD2000 with the ULN-2 offers the same bass quality of the ATH-L3000 while the CD3000 can match the rest. I sold my HD800 because of the CD2000 + the ULN-2.

The internal headamp of the ULN-2, opmamps-based, isn't the best one. IMHO, the CD3000 + the ULN-2 + decent interconnect cables (like the Oritek X-2) + a decent headamp is a reference headphones system.

If you have a chance, just try the CD3000 with a Metric Halo DAC and you'll be landed at the audiophile "heaven".

yes, the cd3k scales really well w/ source/amp improvements

what's "it" exactly? is there any point to you to get a cd1700 when you already own a cd3k? many ppl say that the cd1700 is much warmer w/ a much narrower SS

It isn't a fair compairison. The CD3k is a much better headphones than the V6. The V6 has brighter and harsher presentation with more recessed mid. The CD3k, OTOH, has much nicer soundstage, including better details and much nicer midrange qualities.

IMO, both the CD3000 and CD1700 have similar width in soundstage, but thanks to better driver design on the CD3k...you can hear more deeper into the soundstage. When compared them side by side, the CD3000 makes the CD1700 a bit muffled. I also think that the CD3k is bright while the CD1.7k is darker tonally.

If you manage to land the CD3000, why don't you upgrade the cable on them? The silver dragon cable upgraded made such worthwhile improvements on my old pair.

Just curious for I never knew of the CD 3000 in the first place. The best headphones I have are my MDR V6's.

The V6 is indeed great buy under for under $100 plus it will last forever. Once you start comparing the V6 with better headphones you will hear its weaknesses.
