Sony CD3000 Thread

Looks like someone found a pristine pair of OEM pads. That head band is pretty chewed up though... Near mint? Well, if the headband was replaced, I think that would be more fitting.

Confirmed with the seller, they were bought on eBay! I wonder if he bought the more expensive pads from Japan. They look better than the Chinese ones I bought a while back.

For that price you can buy 2 MDR Z7!

Biggest flaw of CD3000 is the metal shield with tiny holes in front of the diaphragm.
Sounds are holding/bouncing back against the metal and causing metal frame resonance distorsion.

I will get the Z7 ones its out of production and comes down for $150.

Yeah, but the Z7 doesn't sound anywhere near as good. Which is precisely why we are seeing people fishing for bidders at these prices.

I bet it will come down to $400 before long, and some may be tempted to bid, but then they know they can wait another week for it to go down to $200.

LOL someone bought it for $700 incl. shipping for this overhyped hp !??

How many decades took SONY before the audio engineers finally realized with the Qualia 010/SA5000 etc., that maybe that front metal sound cover with tiny soundholes could be negative for letting the soundwaves freely going outside and causing metallic reverberation and resonance.
I wonder if those old engineer have good hearing or are they trying to cover some "bad" SQ of the biocellulose?, do they talk with their hands in front of their mouth too!?

I’ve recently bought a second pair of CD3000.  I like the CD3000 sound, but I have better cans, including Orpheus Set, original Omegas, both R10 (baas-light and bass-heavy), etc.  But this time the CD3000 I’ve bought are brand new (!) old stock.  Ark, headband and ear pads material of CD3000 is unfortunately of now quality and aging fast. The drivers and cups are Ok.  I like the “impressionistic” sunny and airy sound of CD3000, broad soundstage, etc.  Few pictures to compare my old and new CD3000 are attached.  Just wondering, are there any pristine CD3000 still left out there?  Do you own one, or know the owner?

Congrats on the purchase, I own 2 pairs of CD3Ks. One of them is stock and the other pair has been recabled and has custom quilted maple wood enclosures. I enjoy listening to both and along with my bass light R10 they some of my favorite cans in my collection.

How interesting)) the seller is probably the same (I don't fully remember his name on eBay). It looks like he has one more CD3000 for sale. Both my CD3000 were at home (at least this morning)). The seller was fine, the pair he sold to me is really mint. I haven't decided what to do with the old pair yet.
