had a pair of the mtpc's but they got stolen.
 
For the most part, I loved them. I felt the treble was too strong and used a treble reducer eq setting on my iphone. The cable length was too short and that was really annoying.
 
What are some good alternatives? Any recommendations? I love the fact that you can get MTPC's as cheap as 150 or so sometimes barely used at all, but if the absolutely perfect IEM's for me are out there, I'd spend up to 400.

since you're suggesting IE8 as an option and you clearly have
experience with both, how would you compare the clarity of
details/transparency of both IEMs? I only have experience with
the Coppers, and what I have read is that they represent the
instruments with better clarity than the IE8. If it is so, is the
difference really big?
 
Also I wonder in terms of isolation, with the appropriate tips, how
would you rate MTPC and IE8 in a scale of 10 let's say?
 
P.S. Since I have similar questions like the creator of this topic
       I hope he doesn't mind the above lines.

First of the monster iem's are always going to have better isolation due to the design and shallow fit of the ie8 however the ie8s isolation can be increased without an any negative impact on the sound by using monster large triple flange tips.coppers maybe 9/10 ie8 6/10 with standard tips 8/10 triple flange 
 
Over all Clarity of details is very good on the golds ,a bit less in the treble region than on the coppers but the midrange is very good for a warm iem.
 
Clarity of details on the ie8 greatly depends on what tips you use and if the bass nob is set to min or not ,i also find they have much better clarity when amped ,with tips that lessen the bass and amped they have great clarity ,but unamped i would say the golds are the better choice 
Its the vocals that can be coloured by the mid bass hump on the ie8 which to my mind is there biggest down fall unamped

If I understand correctly, the clarity of details of the golds is better than
the IE8s? If so, apparently coming from the Coppers it would be much
much worse...
 
I wonder if one gives the IE8s good burn in, accentuating those weak areas,
wouldn't they improve (and also eventually not letting their mid bass hump
color the vocals?
 
Such an idea comes to mind in regard to the way the Coppers can be influenced
with a particular burn in technique.

I definitely don't want to lose clarity. I was hoping maybe the transition from copper to gold would be exactly what I needed if I get too much treble from the coppers but I don't want to sacrifice clarity for 'warmth' or just less treble. I may just end up buying another set of coppers since with the treble reducer EQ on, they sounded great to me. Would hate to think about using a treb enhanced with the golds....

Some Meelec M9/11 tips will really help bring out the clarity and treble another notch w/o being close to fatiguing as the Coppers could get depending.  If you go the MD route.
