Some more frequency-response graphs

I will add a few more frequency-response graphs published some time ago in the German magazine «Stereoplay» (1/07).

As expressed in several post, they match my own sonic impressions better than the HeadRoom graphs (which show a uniform «distortion» throughout the product palette).





Note that the frequency range reaches from 10 Hz to 40 kHz -- so the first column represents infrasound (10-20 Hz), the two last columns represent ultrasound (20-40 kHz).

The lower curves show the degree of harmonic distortion.

The lines dividing the vertical coordinate have a distance of ~5.7 dB (unfortunately the value numbers in the printed graphs are not accurately allocated to them).

Wow - look at the recessed mids on the Beyer DT770. It's odd how the DT 660 actually looks much more neutral than the DT 770?

Considering the SHP8900's price, that frequency graph doesn't show it in bad light at all. That said, frequency graphs of course are only one aspect.

Also, I hate to say it, but the QC3 looks excellent.

While I have heard these headphones sound similar to the graphs at headroom in certain set ups, the graphs for the K701 and GS-1000 are more of what I hear when matched with the right equipment.

Must of missed it the first time, but gees, the mid-bass hump on the DT770s = wow.

is the DT880's 03 version or 05 version?

They don't mention it in the present edition. I'll do a search -- maybe I'll find a hint in an older edition.

The DT660 is one of my favorite headphones. With a 120-ohm adapter, I think it's very well balanced. The DT770 were never said to be neutral. I think the 2005 DT770 is more so, but it's too biased on the upper end (like the DT990 and DT880) to be considered truly neutral IMO. The 2005 DT770 is more DT880 like (not exactly) with more bass. U-shaped, but not as much as the DT990 2005.

Talk about the stereotypical retro Head-Fi quality radiating here. I have tried all kinds of places for headphone graphs, like Innerfidelity, HeadRoom and Golden Ears, but this is something else. The graphs here seem to most accurately correspond to my listening experience more than all others and I come back and reference this thread often. What a pity the OP hasn't made a follow up epic post with graphs of more of today's headphones. *hint* *hint*
