I'm not 100% sure but I believe they are discontinued in the US and only available in Japan...? and YES! haha, extremely unique sound signature

Heres a great review on the XBA-4 vs the ex1000 and then follwed up by the 7550s

So maybe the 7550's are your best bet for the price, although it says up there that the 7550's take a bit of that treble (spike) down a few db's, not sure how much that would tame the brightness that your looking for. Some reviewers hear slight sibilance in the ex1000's, I've never heard any.... It's like their sound signature is topped with a sugary goodness on it. And the soundstage is HUGE, feels like your at a giant outdoor concert (airy).

Dang, I think Im gonna have to get my hands on the ex1000, that build quality is great as well, if not I might look into the 7550's.

thanks.

Questions about the 7550.

1.The clarity (brightness?) and bass should be much more clear than the XBA3 correct?

2.Build Quality is good right?

3.Should sound fine with iPhone 5?

4.Is isolation a concern? With my XBA-3 I cant really hear anything on the train or wherever I am at, I heard the isolation downright sucks on the 7550 and 1000's, is that true??

eX1000/600/MDR7550 all have isolation issues.

the 7550 can easily be driven by your phone and are clearer sounding the XBA3.

what about being an early adopter on the XBA-H1 or Brainwavz R3?

the H1 can be bought from Amazon if you look in the main thread for these. The H1 is supposed to be somewhat balanced. The H3 is supposed to be V shaped from what I can glean.

Another vote for the Sont MDR EX1000.
I would wait for the new Sonys to come out though.

the Sony 7550 (EX800ST) is another great alternative for OP and the street price is really good right now.

I now own 7550. I have nothing to say other than confirming the findings... positives and short comings.

Thanks guys.

I have decided that i will go with the XBA-H3 when they come out, seems they fit what I am looking for.

I might consider the 7550's in the future as I love the look and the sound seems great but that isolation kills me.
