Soekris Audiophile Line Dac's 2541, 1541, 1421, 1321, 1101

Dear Soekris Forum,
Someone of you knows a good comparison between the 2541 and Rockna Wavelight besides the one on SBAF fom Jonah?

Does anyone tried the Wavelight and could share impressions?

Thanks 🙏
Audio GD house sound seems (judging from reviews) placed in between, but closer to Rockna than Soekris. R-8Mk2 is the best for buck at the moment with optional upgrade to the external 10MHz master clock at no extra cost. Paired with DI-20HE it will be the lowest cost high end system in the universe.

When talking about price level of Rockna, R-7HE Mk2 plus DI-20HE plus third-party 10MHz master clock will fill up the bill. One word - teamwork.

Stereophile test.

Why all this audio-gd chat, this is the soekris thread..
no offence didn’t want to confuse anybody. Just wanted a fair opinion from Soekris users (I myself own the DAC2541) in regards to a next tier (or two steps ahead tier like the WL) in regards to the 2541 as I like it a LOT but was wondering if -besides diminishing return- an upgrade is woth the money to elevate the sound.

I have a Violectric V280 and a Woo Audio WA6-SE as headphone amps.

🙏

I haven't been able to find any specific information about the headphone amplifier section of the DAC2541, beyond a few mentions of it being opamp-based. Can anyone clarify what opamp is used?

Hi Soren.
Since new 2941 is available, have you any new firmware and filter for 2541?
Interesting…does the new board offer any advantage over the board used in the DAC2541?

On the website you can see that the 2941 has also 4 separate ladder for fully balanced layout (same as with the 1941) compared to two ladders in the 2541.

Sorry to ask but is there an advantage of four ladders over two ladders? As I learned from the webside Søren knowingly decided against the four ladder design from the DAC 1941 for the DAC2541 so four isn’t automatically superior over two ladders?

Sorry, I do know the answer to that, but if Søren made this choice deliberately he can surely elaborate on this.

As I have remembered/understood..Soren went to a two ladder because he really liked the new TI opa1656 cmos opamp w/c is used to create the balanced output buffer. And since processing is SE means lower distortion (same principle in some amplifier design where internal is SE and output is converted to balance thru tansformers). Less ressistors/parts means lower cost. Some cost savings went to a significantly larger Lattice LFE5U-45 FPGA.

DAM is for DIYer or for DAC builder which use Soekris board. The cost is the main advantage but you have to build yourself case, power, and output buffer. This can be a tricky task to be efficient. You can also put your believe with large power transformer or separate power with many capacitor and discrete output or whatever.

I did many test with 2541 and I think that Soren did a good job being very pragmatic and efficient (even more than with 1941). Friends who are hifi dealer always complain about not matching with audiophile needs/believe about large case design, better screen, not heavy enough ... to be sold 5 to 10 time more. Most of their job is not to give good advise but to bias listening to makes customer chose component with high margin.
