Love this DAC. I turn it off at night, and when I turn in on the volume stays where it was, but the filter resets to the orange LED. Any way to store the filter when I turn the unit off?
That's the only negative :gs1000smile:. I think this is a good DAC!

do not turn it off ... it consumes (almost) nothing :)
Excellent dac which, however, hears very little about.
It is capable of being very precise, dynamic, in finesse while letting the emotion pass without harshness. It's rare !

I love the 1541. It pairs with my Violectric amp extremely well. I upgraded from a (short lived) Schiit Modius, but I have respect for the Modius for what it is. The 1541 just provides everything I could ask for in terms of resolution, staging, and refinement. I'm watching what happens later this summer (hopefully) to see if there are anything new once the 1541 come back in stock.

I sent an email to Soekris a week or so ago and didn't get any reply. So I ordered the audio-gd R2R-11.

Maybe I'll try again when I get home. But it is not encouraging.

That sucks. When I emailed him last December I got no reply so I bought a new phone - this year I emailed for the 1541, he said he only had the 1421 in stock. Happy with the 1421!

Thanks, I was going to ask you how you liked it :)

I prefer to buy European gear but there is now a lof of competition even in the R2R DAC segment.

I was surprised to see the 15421 swings 13V in balanced. That should do a good job with 300 ohm Sennheisers. But I was planning to get the 1421 and not use the amp section.

I've never used the 1421 headphone out :)

Hopefully one day you get to try the Soekris DACs, they are more precise and solid state delta-sigma sounding than most other R2R DACs.

That was true for me in my comparisons with the Airist and ARES 1. The 1421 didn't have the warmth of the Airist which I liked, but it was so clearly better than the other 2 it was an easy choice to sell them.

I am not sure what to think then. I thought R2R was interesting since music is analog, it makes sense to use analog decoding. But I hope for a more organic and less digital sound though high end chipdacs are pretty good now. I would not be happy if an R2R DAC sounded like a top end AKM or ESS chipdac.

Speaking from experience, going from Topping D50 to the 1421, you lose a little bit of that extra treble energy that ESS are (in)famous for. I don't miss it. The ESS treble was over the top - Soekris cymbals are clear and distinct but not overly in your face.

Besides that the Soekris sound is clean, not muddy or warm like the Airist or Ares. If I want a clean sound I plug the Soekris into a SS preamp and then the 789, for a warm sound I can change the opamp in the preamp or go over to my tube amp.

Well I don't think you can judge ESS by Topping products. My ESS DACs are smooooth :)

Now that my R2R is coming I'll have to think whether I want to drop the money on the Soekris. Thank you.

At the end of May, I looked into replacing my dac1421 with the dac1541 for its fully balanced properties-- Soren told me that he had no stock of the dac1541, but was going to introduce the dac2541 meant to replace it in a few months. That said, I am sure he is struggling with delays because of COVID like everyone else.
