I think these are awesome, but - listening for long periods of time with an earbud can get irratating, and I feel like an equivalent quality over the ear headphone could create a fuller and warmer listening experience.

So can anyone recommend any over-the-ears they feel are about equivalent? Doesn't have to be Sony's. Also, I greatly prefer the style that cup the entire ear... at one point I had a style of headphone that just sort of pressed against the ear from the outside, and they weren't that comfortable...

thanks in advance for the help!

In-ears/IEM's can become irritating over long periods yeah (and all the microphonics you hear like swallowing, walking, clothes etc.).
You could try a pair of earphones that don't enter your ear, like the Yuin PK1's, Audio-Technica CM700, Sony E888, AKG K319 etc.

If you want a cheap comfy pair of circumaural headphones with the "sony sound" and bassiness of IEM's you could try something like the XB700 http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665774402

If you want a really cheap open-air get the SA1000

and remember don't buy from chinese sellers on ebay or the like.
