Also a friend of mines said they can use their employee discount and get Shure SE210 for 65, are they worth the extra 15 vs the ER6i? The place he works at also have the SE115 for $40. I still have a feeling for my needs the ER6i are better but I just want to look at all my options before I make a final decision that sticks.
Thanks

If it were me, I'd say skip the Shures. Its a common sentiment on these boards that lower-end shure phones just aren't as good as the competition. I think this is true all the way up to the E4 (aka SCL4), which always made me feel like something was missing. The Shures are also on the warm side, in direct opposition to the etys.

Yeah I really like the sound sig from my Senneiser as its got something about that helps you get lost into the music. I like to listen to all kinds of music most of the time, other than classical, cheesy pop, and country not of the outlaw variety. So balance, and now I guess a sound stage thats respectable, is a key for me. So I guess the Ety is are it for me.

Keep in mind that Ety's have a medium-sized soundstage and the balance is skewed towards the upper end.

Medium is alright with me. What about the ER4s in these regards? I keep thinking that if I go with the ER6i and the olives, which as suggested make a difference, that I start approaching the HF5, and RE0 price range.

Thanks.

Er4 is supposed to be more balanced than Er6i. You can see Kostalex's review here for a comparison of the Er4p and RE0, but good luck grabbing even a used Er4 in decent condition for under $100. Oh and Er4 > HF5, by all accounts.

Also, if you're looking at the used market as well, you should really be able to grab used Er6i and a set of olive tips for $65-70 total.

Yeah I can't find the ER4 for less than 135, but I can find the HF5(and HF2) for 95 usd which I can swing if if I wait a bit. How do those compare to the ER6i and the RE0.

Well I can get a new ER6i for $60(w/coupon) then add 17 for the olives from amazon because I have a $25 coupon form Amazon(must be bought from amazon new) from a mistake they made. But yeah as you know you can't just pick a headphone you have to make sure its the right fit, both literally, and figuratively. but thank you.

I think you will get charged $5 shipping buying from amazon or head-direct directly. I got mine from the head-direct store on ebay ("head-director") for $99 shipped. I believe they qualify for ebay cashback as well, but I am not sure.

Also, I am not sure which I like better, my Er6i or the RE0. The Er6i just have this upper-end sparkle that puts a smile on my face. The RE0s are perfectly neutral. Both scale well with decent amps, but the RE0 benefits more. Also, you still might want to get some olives for the RE0s (I really don't like silicone tips in general) and de-core them.

In the end, it's really a matter of preference, and I'm not sure I'm making this any easier for you

Yeah this site can make thing hard with the many nice reviews of things, but I know I may regret not getting the RE0 as some say they are easily worth 2x as much. But I will check out ebay.

And by decore, does that mean take out the foam/or what ever is inside, kind of like the mod you see on the Marshmellows?

No, decoring is a way of getting the Shure Olives onto nozzles much larger than those for which they were designed, such as the RE2/RE0 nozzle. It involves splicing open the foam and removing the inner plastic tube of the olives. There was a thread on it somewhere that I cannot find at the moment. I believe mark2410 has recently done this to his RE0, so I am sure you can just ask him for instructions.

oh yeah well i didint do it recently i had ones sitting decored from my play times with tips on the IE7

http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f103/w...ps-ie8-407462/

its detailed in that thread

the key is seperating the olive from the core by scraping the glue that binds them away its really really really slow to begin with so be patient or you will put holes in your fingers
