headband looks to be a different shape from the 840's, though I find the 840's one of the most comfortable phones i have ever used

Looks legit to me, although Shure said they were going to be available in the spring.

they have the new shure srh550dj headphones as well. and they are only $100 dollars. i would really like to check out a pair of those. as i wonder how they compare to the 750s. they definately look more portable. personally though i really think the srh940s will be incredible. but i hope they come down in price.

I wonder if these are the pre-productions? It says he has 5?

I will ask about these to see if I can get anywhere.

Comparing my SRH840 to other headphones again, it seems to me that they really are lacking a little in treble extension.  I think that might contribute to their slightly closed-in sound and limited soundstage, my only complaints about those headphones.  For these reasons, I've been listening to D7000 as my primary closed headphone, but their recessed mids and excessive highs make things sound slightly unnatural (intense and hollow at the same time) and do detract from my enjoyment of music.  If 940 can get the treble right, and keep up or even improve the mids I think they could be great.

Seems like these just hit the market from multiple providers now.

Looks like they're ready to purchase!

I want to, unfortunately the headphone they're competing with for my portable setup are the Senn PX 360, which are HALF the price... and Jude had good things to say about them.

We'll see what I end up doing.

You may be in luck, eucariote.  Treble presence is increased, and extension improved, in the SRH-940, versus the SRH-840.  For my preferences, I'm not sure I prefer the treble boost (relative to the SRH-840) that came with the pre-production SRH-940 I have.

I also don't know that the SRH-940 is going to be viewed universally as a step up over the SRH-840.  Like the HD600/650 thing--where some prefer one over the other--I think the pair of these SHUREs will be viewed similarly (not in terms of sonic signature pairs, only that it'll be a matter of preferences).

I'm only now starting to do more comparisons between the two.  I tried to stick to the SRH-940, to let it stand on its own at first.

Jude, do you find the 940 more comfortable than the 840 in long sessions?

Thx
