Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

Had to throw my 2 cents in on the Spinfit CP800's. I was a little concerned when I saw that they were a tad smaller than the Shure M silicon tips. However...sound wise, they must be a perfect fit. Everything sounds exquisite (that's as technical as I get). I found myself checking to see if the IEM's were in my ears correctly, because it feels like they're not even there. Definitely recommended.

Agree 110%! They're awesome on both the SE846 and KSE1500. Best sound quality of any tip I've ever used (including SCS)!

P.S. There was an interesting mod suggested by Music Junky in the KSE1500 thread which is probably worth repeating here. This involves carefully cutting out the wax guard from the Shure olive tips. This goes some way toward giving you the SQ benefits of the SpinFit tips, but preserves the sound isolation you get from the olives :)

I wear medium shure black olives... Which spin fit will be the same size alternative?

Scroll to the bottom of this web page link until you see Model: CP 800

Then simply measure the diameter of your olives.

I'm also use medium olives. Both the small and medium spinfits work for me.

OK thanks, and you'd say thr sound quality is better than the black olives? I'm sure thr isolation isn't as good, which is ok for me due to my quiet environment.
How do they differ in sound quality?

I use medium olives and went and bought medium spinfits just now, the spinfits has less isolation than the olive and I wish I would have bought large instead now...  It definitely has positive impact on the sound, but my complaint is the lack of wax guard and 846's filter design is so close to the tips opening, Shure added the wax filters there for a reason I guess..

In terms of SQ, I would rate the tips I've tried as follows:

1) SpinFits
2) Shure olives with Music Junky's "circumcision mod" (wax guard cut out).
3) Standard Shure olives
4) Compy foam

As others have mentioned, the SpinFits do have less isolation than the olives, so I'd go for option 2 if I was anywhere noisy. Otherwise, I'd go with SpinFits. I find I have to mess about with the olives (installing them only part way down the nozzle), otherwise I can't get a proper seal. I don't need to mess about with SpinFits. I push them all the way down the nozzle and they fit and seal perfectly. I find the SpinFits extend the extremes of the frequency response. They elevate the bass and increase clarity in the treble. I hardly even bother using the EQ anymore; since using SpinFits, I really haven't found the need to elevate the bass. (Sorry, I got my threads crossed here and was taking about the KSE1500. Same effect on FR applies to SE846 though.)

I would say that the difference in SQ from 2 to 1 is more significant than from 3 to 2, but I'm a freak of nature as my ears just don't produce wax, so there's no point in me having wax guards

How's is option 2 done? I'm interested in this mod as well, I just ordered some spin fits
