I would put money down that you're not missing out. It's a reliability and build quality issue, not SQ degradation. In my case, my right earpiece is suddenly getting quiet.

I got off the horn with Shure and they were pretty cool about it, basically saying that I can either send just the right earpiece in for a replacement or send both in and they'll test them out to make sure everything is on the up and up.

If it were me, I'd send both since you'll be without them anyway.

Definitely - don't tie their hands if they should wish to send you a new pair - if they only have one - they HAVE to repair it...

I had mine in hand on day one of launch and they died.  I had the common left ear driver failure. Thankfully, my retailer replaced both of my earphones in February of this year and have had zero issues since. I really feel like it is a problem with first batch SE846s.  I am honestly not worried about my new SE846s.

The question is what would I do if I owned an original 2013 batch IEM.  I would probably go to Shure for an extended warranty for another year or a replacement.  I have zero idea if this would work but I would certainly try.

played with filters tonight. pretty cool. blue is my favorite. Sort of, I was at work didn't have much time to play and didn't try white. Doubt I'll enjoy the white.

You won't know for sure unless you try...

Lol... so true. Just enjoying the blues right now, hooked to my Rwak120b, life is good today. Listening to my music, walking, loving life. Frank Sinatra singing... love the 8s...i don't think I've spent more than 1 hour with my poor ref1 since buying these. It's mostly due to the fit, but I really need to spend some time with them again. I did grab my Ref 1, put them in this morning, but took them out... I think for lunch today, hopefully I can sit down for a few minutes, eat, and listen as I've become fairly familiar with the 8s now.

Very nice.  So, as you have spent more time with the SE846 and are becoming fairly familiar (more-so once you try the white filters) with them, do you prefer the SE846 more than the Ref. 1, or vice versa?  Just curious...

They are both amazing, if I could get a better fit with the ref1 I'd prefer that, but the fit on the 8s is so literally perfect, makes a huge difference. I'm fairly active so the fit is somewhat important. I'm buying some different tips for the Ref1 to hopefully get a better fit.
