Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

Having owned both the IEMs in question. This is quoted for truth.

Yep.  Just received my K10U and they are wonderful.  The comment "The K10U will give you more of the "you are there" feeling with some very good recordings." is absolutely correct.  The 846 has incredible sub-bass, good bass and nice treble.  The mids are average and sometimes overpowered by the bass.

I'd agree there's something missing from the top end with the stock blue filter. Does your comment still apply when using something like the modded blue filters on the 846?

I use the blue filter mod. I personally think it was a nice improvement and never went back. Without that improvement I don't get the upper mids and the soundstage I want.

What are some other iems that se846 beats at price say the range of 800$ to be 1300$

Sound is subjective, so anything anyone says with regards to your reply will apply to them, but you may think something completely different if you tried those same IEMs and not only the price range you specified, but others outside of the specified price range as well. Listen to as many IEMs as you can so you can be able to have a better understanding of what best suits you with regards to your wants and/or needs.

The K10U really packs a punch. It is one of the few IEMs that I find can pose a challenge to SE846. I'm running the 846 balanced from DP-X1 which sends 846 literally 846 miles above ground. 846 does scales beautifully with equipments. One thing that I find K10U does not portray as neat is snare drums. It sounded too forward into the music and artificial at times. Comparing prices wise, the 846 is a steal against K10U.

Its tough for me to understand, how do I make my se846 balanced?

Its the cable and you got to have the coressponding dac amp to have a balanced output. The better question is should one get balanced? why are amps not all balanced? you should listen to some and compare. The last paragraph of the link suggests why you might want balanced for long cable runs or to shield out noise. Rob watts, the designer of CHORD products has some very specific ideas as to why he does not offer banaced outputs. You can search the chord thread.
Some folks swear by it, Im not in because chord is my dac amp of choice...throw in xlr as another component of balanced connectors. You have lots of Googling to do.

Quick question. Which third party cable manufacturers have MMCX connectors that hold a tight connection and don't cut out sound? This at least used to be a big issue when I got my SE846 so I kept away from custom cables. My Logitech MMCX cables cut off the sound all the time and the connection is quite wobbly.

Looking for a decently priced cable, not that concerned with possible sound changes. Just something more ergonomic. The stock cable is way too stiff compared to the standard Westone/Earsonics/Logitech stuff.
