Why must they place the input port on the top of the amp next to the headphone output?

@jude I have two question that only you can pass to Shure.
1) Are we able to purchase the KSA1200 alone?
2) Will Shure consider releasing a balance version of KSA1200 now that all the high end DAP are their best sounding using their balance out?

Thanks in advance.
Electrostats amps are balanced in nature due to circuitry employed. Balanced signal isn't needed.

It is not matter of necessity on electrostat part but more to do with DAPS like WM1 where their pentaconn out sounds better than their single ended part and how we go about pairing a single ended electrostat to the balance out of a dap like wm1a/z.

Sorry for getting off topic a little bit, but was the SR009S referred to in the video the new Stax model? I read about it a few days ago and now I’m really excited!

Couple of random thoughts:

I guess a lot of folks wouldn't miss the DAC, but the EQ is handy to have available. Still, for the lower price and extra battery life, I think even existing KSE1500 owners might be tempted. Like @Mimouille said, it would be interesting to know if the KSA1200 (electrostatic amp) is going to be sold separately.

Just returned from Fujiya Avic in Tokyo. Listened to many HP, DAC and Amps. The most significant device I listened to was the Shure KSE 1200. The exhibitor stated this show was its debut. Wow, this is on my shortlist to buy. Have not listened to Jude’s review.

Break::

Just got home from the show. Thank you Jude for posting a review of the Shure KSE 1200. As soon as I removed them, I told her, "These are the best HP, not IEMs, but HPs I have ever heard. Little warmer than the typical electrostatic, full range and plenty of bass. I listed to them with all genre of music and they still prevailed. She asked if I wanted to pre-order and I graciously declined. I am truly kicking myself now. Oh well, I will pick them up at Yodobashi when I have a chance.

I think the new kse1200 can sound even better than before if the amp is connected to a good dap or dac.

Yes, exactly what the distributor stated today at the show. Although, I typically use the Mojo with the A&K Mk1 due to sounding better, but today I only listened to the kse1200 with A&K Mk1 alone and it sounded great.

These will have to be driven using the big black box.
The big black box is generating the EHT etc used to drive the electrostatic speakers in the headphones.
Not one for the shower I think :)

There is a line input on the box.

It's only a 30g weight savings between the 1500 amp and the 1200 amp. So I think I'd rather just stick with the 1500 amp and keep the display -- I imagine it would be a little tricky to set the input volume to the 1200 amp properly without being able to see if it's clipping.
