My Shure E4 (paid $180) served me well for six years but have finally bit the dust. If I could have replaced the cabling they would still be a fantastic piece of kit; with this in mind detachable cables are a strong selling point to me but not a requirement. They are the only IEM I have experience with, and I strongly preferred the triple-flange tips with them.
Budget for new IEM: $50 - $150
Retailer: I have an Amazon Prime membership so that is always my first choice (free two-day shipping? best thing ever), but eBay is not out of the question.
These IEM will be me only source of quality audio reproduction. Plugged into my Galaxy Nexus listening through Spotify is the typical use-case scenario.
I listen to a wide range of music which includes bass dominant electronic dance, mid dominant vocal singer-songwriter, and treble dominant violin solos. Punchy bass is important, but so is clarity of treble. I realize that there are always strengths and trade-offs in sound signature as few IEM can reproduce all frequencies equally well. I am toying with the idea of getting a second pair at some point so that they can be more specialized in focus rather than jack-of-all-trades, but right now its not financially feasible. $150 is already stretching a limited budget.
Thus far I am considering the Shure SE215, the Future Sonics Atrio M5 (MG7 transducer), and the V-Sonic GR06. If anyone could provide some additional insight into the relative strengths and weaknesses of these three models for the range of music I listed it would be appreciated. I don't know enough about audio to determine which makes more sense for my needs.
Thoughts? Advice? Suggestions of other models?
