But the old school CRT!
Headphones were not used back then for music listening/recreation. They were only used by military, film,TV and music production.

You speak from a lack of experience good person. Incorrect. I personally owned and used a number of consumer grade headphones in the mid to late 1960s (Koss, Echo, Onkyo, Philips, and Sennheiser). The first pair were gifted Koss Beatlephones which was a huge gift for a child.

Well, it changed again. The DMP-A8 is awesome, but freaking huge. Not really a desktop system even though it has a touchscreen. Still, awesome system.

How does the Phantom compare to other estat amps in your opinion? I thought about getting it but ended up with the Stax 717 since according to the experts the 717 is the best amp Stax made.

To be fair, no one expected headphone listeners from the 1960s to correct statements about times bygone.
:)

This is my first estat amp. So, I'm afraid I couldn't tell you how it compares to other ones. Seems really great to me, especially since I can boost the bass on the SR-007A with it. Also, it allows me to rub estat and regular headphones... oh, and IEMs as well. It's truly an all-in-one amp, which is sick.
