originally i was going to get the hd 558s due to my budget, but now my mom has this good easy pay coupon or something like that and i saw these other 2 pairs ( pro700mk2 and a900) on qvc and was wondering whats the best out of these 3 pairs?

i listen to different kinds of metal, dance/electronic/trance, regina spektor, and some bach

it should be noted tho that im only considering these 2 pairs because of an easy pay option that my mom has on qvc, otherwise i wouldnt be able to afford them or any others like them in that price range.

Well you really can't compare the Sennheiser HD558 which is an open headphones with the other 2 which are closed.

Closed will give you better low frequency performance and not bother those around you.

I have the Audio Technica ATH-A700 which are the next model down the line and VERY similar to the A900 and I say that would a good pair of quality cans to get you started.

Actually while you're at it look at the JVC HARX700 which you can get for $34 SHIPPED. They are REALLY good, even when compared to $100+ headphones.

My A700 are only a little bit better in the high frequency and extreme low frequency performance than the HARX700 and theres a $150 street price difference between the 2.

I'm new to headphones but not high end sound being a Home Theater, home and car audio guy.....these are my observations.

Thanks for the input.. I will now have to consider the JVC's you talked about.  I would still like to hear from anyone else between the three (3) other one's I listed.. But really.. .thank you for your time..

Also consider the JVC HARX900 which are only a few dollars extra.

Theres 2 good threads on each of these sets if you do a little searching....once modded they are greatly improved over stock.

Theres no reason to get the most expensive set for your first.

Like I said I have both the A700 and HARX700 and they're very close....so close it's a no-brainer to get a set of the JVC cans.

You'll want several pairs anyway for different types of music as each pair of headphones has it's strengths and weaknesses.
