Shanling M6 PRO - New version coming Summer 2021
Aug 17, 2022 at 10:03 AM Post #871 of 959
@Shanling: Question regarding the line-out function of the M6 Pro 21.

You stated that the M6 Pro does not have a dedicated line-out circuit and line-out mode is only a software setting.

I was considering purchasing a KAEI TAP-1 Portable Desktop Full Balanced Headphone Tube Amp to use with my Pro 21.

The KAEI uses either a single-ended 3.5mm input or balanced 4.4mm balanced input from what ever source you connect. I know on the M6 Pro 21 that the 3.5mm single ended line-out is the standard line out solution, but if one chooses line-out mode on the Pro 21, will this software setting also enable the 4.4mm output (or even the 2.5mm output) to go into line-out mode? Or would the line-out setting only put the 3.5mm output into line-out mode?

If the 4.4mm output on the Pro 21 could only be used in phone-out mode, could this still be used to connect to the KAEI's 4.4mm balanced input, using a balanced 4.4mm male to balanced 4.4mm male connecting cable?

Thanks for any insight into this.

You can use both outputs for your amp, either with line-out enabled or not.

It will both work just fine.

Updated to new firmware without a issue. Nice to see the continued support for the M6 pro 21.

Been using mine as a source device for the Ares ii it’s much better than the iPad I was using SQ-wise. The battery life with
out using the M6 dap and amp is incredible getting well over 24 hours using it as just a source.
Haven’t been using it much due to health issues. Happy I found another use for it the recent firmware fixed it trying to charge when connected to another device so much more versatile now.

Interesting as it does consume battery. Assume you're always using USB for the connection? What software player(s) are you using on the M6 to feed the Denafrip? How about streaming, if at all?

Using the tidal app so it's streaming before it's USB connected to DAC. Think by not using the battery to power dac and amp increases battery time? Also rarely use the screen most skipping songs I use the side button. I do need to use the screen when needed to pick a new album or playlist.
Breaking in new cables so when not listening it's still feeding the DAC a signal. Next time I fully charge it will double-check the hours it lasted.

EDIT I was only able to get around 19 hours this time around. Only possible thing different was this was without interruption where the 24 hours figure was based on 3 days of on and off usage. When thinking back the player was off one morning and mighta factor in time where it turned off and on.
Will try to retest over the next couple of charge cycle but just wanted to clarify this. 19 hours is really good imho for the Shanling M6 Pro.

I have battery problem with this version. on m6 pro (AKM version), from full charge, it's only can play about 2 hour until it totally empty and shutdown. Also when i full charge it, shut it down, and next morning, battery at 75%, losing battery when it not use and m6 pro in off position.
I want to downgrade it, how to downgrade it ?
Before this update, normally i can play more than 6 hour on balance output.

Edited :
Already downgrade the firmware, but battery getting worst. Now it cannot play without plug in charging. I think the battery is problem. And problem continues, when turn it on (with charger plug in), the screen flicker and android is starting always show on screen. I upload the video to YouTube. It's just 2 year old, rarely used, and now problem like this.

Please try to do Full factory reset through the Android recovery menu:

1. Turn off player.

2. Hold down volume wheel and top left button at the same time, hold until Shanling logo appears. If performed successfully, image of green robot and “No command” text will appear.

3. Hold down volume wheel and while holding it down, turn it one step clockwise.

4. Now you entered Android Recovery menu. Use volume wheel up/down to go through menu and press volume wheel to confirm. Wipe data/Factory reset option can be found in the middle.

Already doing this step. Not getting better. Frequently shutdown when setting up for first time. I think the battery is the problem. Where i can get the battery? I buy it on Indonesia, can i get to the distributor (CSI) to repair it? If cannot, what is the solution?

Replacement battery can be purchased from Linsoul:

I'm not sure if CSI provides such repair services. But replacing battery on M6 is easy and any decent phone repair shop could do it.

Alternative would be to ship your unit to our offices in China for out-of-warranty repair.

May i know, is it open from the screen or from the back?
M6 opens from back. Battery is glued to the back panel, so exchanging it is easy.
