Shanling M6 Player - New version with ESS DACs coming soon

Factory reset has no affect on firmware, it will stay on the same firmware as you installed.

Huh. So to roll back firmware I'd have to manually download one of the previous firmware upgrades and install that through the support app?
Not that I think I need to do this, as the factory reset solved the volume issue. Which is kinda curious given that it has no impact on the firmware itself.

Yes.

There maybe some bug. It's pretty common, actually, if you are using android device before.

No, it's not possible to downgrade firmware on M6 or M6 Pro this way.

Hi - I've had my M6 for about three days, deciding to upgrade from my beloved Pioneer XDP 300r. So far, so good, but I'm afraid I do have a couple of questions. I've ploughed through some of the previous pages of questions which have helped me resolve at least one thing: My Google Play app, which my list of apps said was there, but didn't appear on the desk top until I downloaded it from APKpure. Sorted.

A couple of niggles, though, and I apologise in advance for technical ignorance:

First, I've tried connecting to my PC (Windows 10) using the data cable, but I only get anything at all when I click on "Transfer photos (PTP)" and then only the internal storage. There's no sign of the memory card in there (a ScanDisk extreme 1TB). Clicking on "Transfer Files" doesn't bring up anything at all, not even the internal storage.

Second....what is the Shanling Controller App on my phone supposed to actually do, and how do you turn it off? I keep getting a message that it's running, no matter what, and when I open it I get a list: "Local music" "Recently played" and "My collection" but when I try to explore these it tells me to connect to the M6 with Bluetooth. I hit "confirm" and it goes "Searching" and then, usually, nothing. Sometimes my phone says "Shanling M6" but then says the connection's timed out. What exactly is supposed to be happening?

so far, I'm very happy with it. The native audio player scrambles my files up, but I've downloaded Poweramp, about the only one that doesn't, and am happy with that. A pity, cause the native one has really good sound. The sound overall is great, and I've got a silicon sleeve on order, much needed. It's such a smooth, slippery bugger that it glides and slides off of an even slightly uneven surface, which I can see problems with.

Thanking in advance.

One thing I've noticed about the M6; the default English keyboard is awful. I've been much happier entering text after installing Gboard.

Regarding connecting to PC, you can try to enable USB debugging in developer settings, it works for some users that have problems with their computers.

Shanling Controller app is only for use with UP2/UP4, not for M6. If you want to use Synclink function with your phone, you need to download Shaning Music app(available only on Android).

Please what do you mean by "scrambles my files up"?

Somehow, I managed to access the SD card on the seventh try, so there was no need to enable USB debugging, which is a relief -- I don't think I have the technical chops for that.

Thanks for the info about the Controller app -- I must have just downloaded the wrong one.

Apologies for the glib turn of phrase -- I meant that while some audio apps are happy with how I tag my files, some are definitely not. I have, for instance, several live albums by artists that are just called "Live" as a title. Despite the fact that the artist name is different in each case, the Shanling app has lumped all of these in together - my XDP - 300r never had this problem, nor did my Cowon X7. I've tried re-tagging them so that the title includes the name of the band, but this doesn't seem to be doing it. I'm sure I can resolve it by further re-tagging, but it's annoying.

Thank you for your swift response. I'm afraid that, being a techno-idiot (I don't even understand most of the questions on this forum!) I'll be asking many more, and appreciate that you take the time. Long may it last!

Okay, a couple of questions. I have a Denon M41 stereo and have attached my Shanling M6 via the Analogue In, using...oh, I can't think of the name, but you'll now. It plugs into the headphone jack of the M6. But...the Denon also has two "Optical In" slots. Is there something I can use to attach the M6 to one of those and would it make a difference?

Meanwhile...what is the logic of having the headphone jacks on the bottom? it's not something I'm used to, but it looks like it's the done thing these days.

Thanks in advance.

There is no optical output on M6, so it can't be used with optical inputs on your Denon.

Help! My M6 is not only apparently flat, it refuses to charge - no lights, no nothing. I was trying to use it last night and it had trouble reading the music on the 1TB memory card, claiming that there were no files there. I'd just added a couple of albums, so thought it might be confused, and set the Shanling app to update its library. Knowing that this can take a while, I plugged it in and fell asleep, only to wake up this morning and find it very dead looking. What can I do??

You can try forced reset, holding down the wheel for 12 seconds forces shutdown and another 12 seconds will power it on.
By any chance, is the LED light on side stuck as red?

Thank you for your reply, but the forced reset has no effect. As I said, there are no lights, and that does include the red LED light. The device is still totally unresponsive.

Please give it a day and then try to put it on charger again.

If this doesn't help, please contact your seller for warranty replacement.
