Shanling M6 Firmware V2.8 notes

Google Drive Download (warning, 800 MB file) or Update via OTA.

New functions:

1. Added USB Digital Output function, for use with external DAC.
Notes:
M6 recognizes connected DAC automatically and switches to digital output.
Volume of USB output is controlled by M6. We recommend to set it to 100%.
USB volume is separate from analogue output volume. After you disconnect USB DAC, system will switch to previously set volume level.
We recommend to open music software on M6 before connecting external DAC.
2. Added standard Android virtual buttons.
To enable, go to Settings > Display > Virtual Key mode and turn on “Navigation bar visible”.

Changes and fixes:
  1. Improved battery performance and battery indicators.
  2. Fixed rare issue, when M6 was unable to turn on after charging.
  3. Optimized translations.
  4. Other bug fixes.

Just my two cents... The Shanling M6 is music app is one of the best that I have used. For the basic functions it is really good. I have no issues with how things are sorted and album art.

Can't believe that that is still a problem in 2020!

I imagine that was in response to the lack of gapless. If so, I totally agree. It should've been a feature at product release. Fingers crossed it happens soon!

I've had some albums sort incorrectly when using the Shanling app, whereas the same albums sort correctly in UAPP. I just don't think UAPP sounds as good as the Shanling app which has a richer, fuller sound to my ears.

Yep really surprised at that one and still a deal breaker. I've learnt long ago to get daps that have the features you want out of the box and not promised in some vapour ware update that may or may not happen. At least it being android you can download any app you want.

MQA would be nice, I do not see any tangible benefit of MQA over FLAC, or DSD;
Agreed, But since this is an android DAP, I'd like to play MQA straight from tidal. which would vastly increase my Hi-res music library. There isn't any streaming service that offers FLAC or DSD Streaming right now (and hence my FLAC/DSD library is very limited). MQA is a reality at this moment, and I'd have liked to make full use of it. I've still gone ahead and ordered the M6 from linsoul. Let's see how it turns out. I'd much rather have a shanling than a fiio, due to my past horrible experiences with multiple fiio products, and excellent experience with the M1.

As for the software bit, In my experience with the M1, Shanling continued to provide meaningful upgrades for a few years. they delivered on their promise of providing the HiBy Link capability to M1 as well. which vastly improved the capability of that tiny dap. So I'm not worried about the gapless situation.
