Hello, my M5s was arrived a week ago. All OK but only one painful thing i've detected: there's no scrolling text for long file and folder names. Please see this photo:

P1000463.jpg

There's a five different folders with different files but they looks absolutely equally! How can i find a necessary one?
On releases note page for Shanling M5s Firmware 2.0 says: (point 4) Added scrolling text for long file names. Swipe lefty on file to make text scroll.
But this doesn't work for latest firmware like 3.6 or 3.7! Shanling do you know about this problem? It would be fixed in the future upgrades? Thanks in advance!

It works for me for files and folders. FW: V3.7. Try to format microSD card to exFat file system + Try to reset device to Factory settings.

We are seeing no problem with text scrolling on our units, running firmware V3.7

Please make sure that when you swipe, you start in middle or left third of the file name. This function is little bit tricky to get used to.

Yes! I do it!!! But approximately only one attempt of 100 has been successful. Sensor is too sensitive and any touch to screen just causes opening folders or playing files. This is endless pain! There's no way to make it more user friendly?

About a month ago I set out to replace/find a primary player to compliment the M0 which I love, but wanted a larger screen and balanced output.

After buying and trying the Hiby R3 Pro, Shanling M2X and the iBasso DX160, I just got the M5S and I’m happy to say this is the player I was looking for.

The combo of Shanlings house sound along with a simple but for-my-needs perfect UI and system setting options make this my new primary dap. I’ve got the official leather case arriving later this week :)

Out of curiosity, a few questions: how does the power and quality of the dac/amp of the m5s stack up against the M0 in technical terms? Is the m5s truly a step up in terms of hardware?

What filter is the default on the m5s, and what filter do you guys prefer?

Thanks!

Default filter in Shanling is Short Delay Slow. My personal preference is Sharp Roll-off.

From technical point of view, audio circuits in M0 and M5s are very different. On M0 it's all-in-one single chip, while M5s has two dedicated DACs and whole amplifier circuit. M5s is better overall in all our measurements and it offers about 1.5x more power in single ended and almost 4x more power in balanced.

Hi,
I still love the sound of M0 more then that of M5s. M0 gives the right amount of warmth to the mids and bass, and also has very nice sparkle at heights. M5s is quite neutral, without sparkle (EDIT: It has sparkle with sharp roll-off filters. My often choice is Sharp Roll-Off), so it works well with warmer or brighter iems, but not so well with neutral earphones.
I'm waiting for an M8 review :)

@Shanling I'm having a bit of a problem with the wheel on my new M5S. The first weird thing I noticed is that when turning it up or down sometimes the volume gets briefly caught for a second and wont move up/down, and sometimes it'll jump several notches with a single "click" up or down. Even worse is when moving the wheel up or down it'll actually dial the volume the opposite way (see video below where I'm moving the wheel up but the volume goes down). I've also noticed that the entire wheel doesn't click in when I press it to wake/turn off the screen. Only the "back" half of the wheel pushes in. I don't believe either of these behaviors is normal. I've recorded two short videos to demonstrate:

What will be the quickest way for me to get a new unit? This one was bought brand new just over a week ago now, from Linsoul.

Was this one of the refurbished units sold in their summer sale in discount?

@Shanling After swapping my unit I got another one and it has the same problem as the first unit, maybe even worse. See this video:

Is this what all refurbished units have? I’m extremely annoyed as I’ve now paid for return shipping to China of the first unit, waited a week and now my replacement unit is even worse.

Yeah, that is not normal. I just tried that on my unit (not refurb) and mine is very precise, goes up and down 1 at a time precisely based on the number of clicks.
