I think you are absolutely right here. But maybe some words about the tonality? Will it be more reference, analytical sounding or is it on the analog, warmer side ? What was your goal here (compared to your other players)?

Honestly, after seeing feedback for our players during my time in Shanling, I found it's best to say nothing regarding sound.
For example, with M3s, I heard from users claiming it to be too bright all the way to too dark. With M0 it's all over again.

Our goal was the get the best sound from AK4493. And it's best sounding player from Shanling, by significant margin to my ears. Even beating my modded Shanling M5(which was truly excellent).

@Shanling, I may have missed it but does the M5S have HiBy control capability??

New Shanling players have nothing in common with HiBy, so no HiBy link. Our own version of such feature is in development.

Honestly, I don't know. I think I was sharing this story around here before:

One of our external engineers, true magician when it comes to the highest Audiophilia, let me listen to his modded M5 once. I instantly brought him my M5 next day to be modded.
What's changed inside? Amps, some other components, added lots of shielding. Result is player with significant hiss, horrible battery life and kind of overheating, but great sound
