Does this mean there will be no Tidal Premium support? Or will it be added in future update?

Tidal Premium should be added in future firmware updates.

This is our first release of Tidal for our system, there is still work to be done on it.

On my unit it was fixed with 3.0 firmware. Can you try to take video showing, how severe is your problem?.

I just spend a minute or so rolling the dial up and down and it seems to be working normally now, I guess it's a case of some dust/dirt getting stuck under the dial that was effecting its operation.

Anyone compared the M5s to the FiiO M11? Seeing they are in a similar ballpark in price and the same AKM 4493 dac

I've been successful in importing Relative Path Playlists and the M5s reads & plays them BUT they don't show up in my Playlist lists. I've created a folder called playlists, and imported the playlists using JRiver and it works great when I use folder view and go to the playlist folder, but is there anyway to have them show up as a playlist in the menu?

Not possible with current system.

Is it just me or does the M5s sound better with the new 3.0 update? :o2smile:

I report back with some findings about M5s' sound. I used my MG5HX since it is a DD with linear impedance.

Comparison: AK SR15
Compared to the M5s, AK offers a seemingly thin sound that boosts the uppermids. However the level of separation of SR15 is better, it makes m5s sound congested and bloaty. The low end doesn't have the finesse of the M5s though, as if it's struggling a little and sounds...forced.

Comparison: ZX300
The ZX300 sounds shrill next to the M5s. Has lesser depth in sound and tends to cause vocals to be a bit bright sounding compared to M5s, whereas M5s vocals are warmer and darker.

Comparison: WM1A
Quite similar to ZX300 in terms of tone but has better control as well as a bigger staging. Great bass response. But again, tends to be a bit shrill sounding somehow with vocals and cymbals.

Compared to all 3 players, M5s has that 3d depth which I think is due to the boosted lower mids. Makes sounds more bodied and pushes vocals a bit more forward and rich, lending to a heavier and more bodied tonality. However the M5s sounds congested with its large notes next to the 3 DAPs. I would synergise the M5s with IEMs that need more bodied notes.

I can honestly say that a couple of weeks ago I made a comment to my wife in reference to the M5s that "the more I use it, the better this thing is sounding" I attributed it to 2 things: 1. My getting used to it after so long with an Astel & Kern unit and 2. More burning in time. Then I saw this post and realized that my comment almost exactly coincided with the update to 3.0.... Hmmmm

What Astel & Kern model do you have? How do you compare it vs M5s?

Further testing on m5s SE and Bal. Bal is warmer and bassier. Balanced seems to have sharper and more defined imaging providing more control and separation for my DD ciems. on the other hand, SE is less warm, has a more forward midrange which sound more normal to me tonally (in synergy with my iem). However basslines do get a bit flabby and uncontrolled. Decisions, decisions..

I’d just dial out some of the excessive frequencies you don’t want with the EQ. There isn’t any appreciable loss is quality with it engaged, and if you’re only subtracting, you won’t run into any gain issues. To my ears, the overall superior soundstage and dynamics from the balanced out is worth a little bit of fiddling around with the EQ.
