But finally, when looking for that fix, I found this: https://openmtp.ganeshrvel.com
Which is WAY BETTER, it's an open source equivalent, up-to-date either, with plenty of options for sorting properly files, displaying folders by icons or list, etc... It works like a charm on macOS Mojave, and doesn't run any helper when the app is closed, so I uninstalled properly AFT. (I didn't try to transfer anything yet, but the M3X shows up and I can switch easily from internal to external quickly too, using its user friendly interface)
Yeah, it works great. Used it for my e-ink reader and was planning on putting some files on the player. Glad I don’t have to worry about it working.

No. The walled garden keeps us in. However…

If you have playlists in Apple Music you can output the list as an m3u, take that to a text editor to change the file path for the m3x. Or you could download the Apple Music app to the M3x.

Just to be clear, the Apple Music android app works just fine.

Hi, can anyone share his/her experience on MQA files playback from the SD Card with M3X ? I have some so-called MQA flac files that I have downloaded, while playing back on my M3X with balanced earphones, the player page only indicates its flac files playing, and I have no clue whatsoever if the files are indeed MQA files, or are they already properly decoded with my M3X. Thanks. 😊
If you have locally stored MQA files, you should be able to play them fully in the Shanling music app.
If you are questioning your MQA files, you can download samples to compare from 2L: http://www.2l.no/hires/
Hi. I was looking for how I could set it to "line out." But it seems when I toggle the switch the page talks about, it only toggles between "PO" and "LO"

I have to be assuming that LO is only line out, and there is actually no "low power output" mode, right?
Yes, it only switches between phone output and line out.
If you want to adjust power output, switch between gains.
***. I didn't consider this, and I already bought this. What are the consequences? What will I no longer be able to do in, say, a year's time?
So far there are no consequences. We encountered only few apps that do not support Android 7, but at these cases there are alternative apps provided by the developer. Netflix being such example.

I tried the sr 25 and it was nice, I just liked the sound of the hiby R5s better, plus it's got full android. AK stuff looks so nice though. Maybe the people in the pics on musicteck for the m3x ads have small hands lol. The R5 is dwarfed by my hand. I do like shanling stuff though, I loved my m2s.
Say, how was the bass slam of R5 Saber?

I have both the R5 (not R5s) and M3X and I would have an extremely difficult time picking one over the other. I bought the M3X because my R5 is starting to show some battery degradation and decided to try something different. I really like my M3X, but the devices are darn similar in features and performance.
For how long have you had the R5? Does it sound better than M3X? Also, the output power of R5 is more than M3X, right? It can drive demanding iem/headphones easier?

confused between getting the M3X by shanling or R5Saber by HiBy as my Android DAP. This will be my secondary player. Primary is a Cayin N3 Pro. Please Suggest.

SAME
lol
I’d like a really small Android DAP but the form factor tends to come with a smaller price point and the inevitable compromises that induces.

I have had the R5 since it was first released, about 18 months ago and it has seen a lot of usage. I have several DAPs, but the R5 was the most used due to small size and everything working as it should with no hassle (streaming sevices, etc.). Yes, on paper the R5 has more power but both drive my IEMs just fine, so non-issue for me.
I cannot tell any difference in sound between the two, but my ears may not be as "Golden" as some here. I bought the M3x as a replacement because, 1) it is newer, 2) has an interesting DAC, and 3) has better battery life. As I have said the devices are quite similar and competitive.

I was tied between these two also….tried the Hiby r5s coming from Fiio m6 was obviously an improvement. Haven’t tried the Shanling as couldn’t find on sale only preorder and I’m impatient! Then a Fiio M11 came up £85 cheaper so returned the Hiby. Size was good , felt nice in the hand , screen not overly responsive though. I preferred the Fiio M11, although larger, the screen is so much better . I’m only using indoors so size not really a problem. Would like to have tried the Shanling but the cost of the M11 was less than the M3x so I’m happy with it , suits my needs.
Good luck deciding!
