Shanling M2x - TIDAL || Wi-Fi || Both-way LDAC BT & BT Transmitter || Advanced USB transport || FW 2.7

Is there a way to downgrade the firmware on the M2X? I'm currently on the latest firmware (3.3), and sometimes I'm experiencing hard lockups (music stops playing and entire player freezes), needs a hard restart to fix things (holding the power button until it's off and turn it on again).

You can downgrade by downloading an older version on Shanlings website, then manually trigger firmware update using SD card as source.

I am having similar issues with M5s which is basically the same OS as used in M2X. In my case the player freezes when doing the following:
1. play song on Tidal and pause
2. go into standby mode
3. wake up from standby mode
At first the WiFi needs to reconnect but the player already tries to playback the song.

For M5s unfortunately downgrading by one release did not help.

And interestingly I am not having these resume/freeze problems on M2X on latest firmware 3.3… only on my M5s.

Either way, I hope Shanling can fix it for both players.

thanks for the advice, downgraded to firmware 2.7, seems to fix the freezing issues. and my usb connection seems to be more stable too (on 3.3 it sometimes locks up during the USB Connected screen).

Is it just me or the boot up time of the player seems to be faster in 2.7 instead of 3.3 ? could be just my feeling though haha

I did a factory reset on every firmware update, and a complete rescan of my music library every firmware update and/or new song being added into my micro SD card (copied using a SD card adapter, not via the M2x USB transfer)

p.s is there a way to transfer the music files directly to the M2x wirelessly? like ShareIT on android?
We got few reports of this and software team is looking into this.

You can downgrade firmware on any MTouch player by simply using older firmware file and going with standard manual firmware update procedure.

There is "Wi-Fi Filte Trasnfer" item in menu, you can try that one.

Hi @Shanling . My M2x unit suddenly won't charge when I connect it to the wall, and also won't connect to the computer. I've tried different cords. I've had it about 1 1/2 years. Does it sound like the USB port on the unit is dead? What can I do, if anything?

Also, it seems to be getting pretty hot around the area of the port on the unit when I connect it to a computer. Actually, very hot. It's not something I've noticed before. When I connect it to a computer when the unit is off, actually the screen will turn on (sometimes), but it won't charge and I'm not able to see it connect on the computer screen. So something is happening (unit gets hot, screen turns on), but that's it.

I haven't updated the firmware for a few months as this one was working well. So, the firmware is probably a couple of generations old. Not sure if that could be connected to the problem.

Update: I just tried to connect it to the computer again and I got a "USB Connected" screen on the unit, but doesn't seem to charge. But I was able to access the files. That's good.

Any advice? Does it sound like the port is breaking, or...? Anything I can do? I know the area around the USB port getting hot can't be good. What might all this indicate... time for a new unit? Thanks.

Seems there might be hardware issue on charging circuit.
That would have to be send to our offices for repair.

OK, thank you. I guess that won't be necessary as I just purchased an M3X.

By the way, I'd be curious about the sound difference between M2X and M3X, in your opinion. Did I make a good move? :)

I'm using Etymotic ER4-XR iems.

I personally prefer the Sabre sound from M3X and it's definitely step up for me.
But some people will prefer to stick to the AKM of M2X.

Thanks! That's interesting. OK, I just read the comparison between the 2 chips...
Is the M3X more detailed, and less bassy than the M2X? Based on what I've read, that might be the case. Or...? Why is the M3X definitely a step up for you? How do they differ? (I hope the M3X isn't thin-sounding with harsh treble.)

Also, do you know how much it might cost to have the M2X repaired and sent back to me? Maybe I'd be interested to have that player working again too, if some people prefer it!

This is not a big deal really, but whenever I set the date/time on my M2X, the setting won’t seem to hold. The correct time/date set by me will stick for a few hours or a day, but ultimately it reverts back to the same incorrect setting. Any ideas? Like I said, not a big deal, more annoying than anything. I still love nearly everything about my M2X.

I switched from a 400GB to an 1TB SanDisk Ultra SD card on my M2X. The 400GB card worked flawlessly - the 1TB get's unreadable in the M2X immediately. I can format the card on my Mac and copy all the files on to the card without any trouble. The first three weeks the card worked in the M2X but now the Shanling tells me to reformat the card whenever I inserted it. I reformatted the card on a PC - same result. Any idea how to fix this? Is this a problem of the device or of my card?

That's very strange it worked and then suddenly stopped. Please what formatting you are using?

And can you send me photo of what exact message you are getting on the M2X?

If I open settings/memory/mobile memory (don't know the exact name - device is running with a German interface) it reads:
SD-Card from SanDisk
damaged

Formating is FAT
On M2X in the settings I'm not aware of such setting part. Please are you talking about what's displayed on your Mac?

You mentioned Shanling shows you some error message, please what is it? You can switch it to English to make it easier.

Is your card FAT32 or exFAT? FOr M2X and card this size we recommend to use exfat formatting.
