Shanling M0 - Smallest Hi-Res Portable Player - New Firmware V3.6
May 14, 2020 at 11:33 AM Post #6,001 of 6,413
Hi!

I was wondering if there was any possibility of making the M0 read and use iTunes' Soundcheck info?

I am quite happy with iTunes for managing the library, which sits on an old MacBook with Snow Leopard, as it communicates well with my AppleTV for listening.
I set up a simple program in Automator to sync the library to the M0 with RSync, that does the job very well.

Unfortunately I don't think the Soundcheck volume info is read by the player.

Best regards,
Fredrik

M0 is able to work with standard ReplayGain. No idea if there is any way how to shift iTunes system into that.

There seems to be a pop/click sound changing tracks for dsd files. Can Shanling take a look at it. Also, is there a gain increase for dsd files coz the volume is too low for these type of files. I'm on fw v3.4. Thanks

I’ve had my M0 for a few months, and it’s incredible what Shanling has managed to pack into it. It’s still far from perfect, and some issues I’ve found include:

- Doesn’t recognize mp3u8 playlists on Mac. It gives an error which could be a turn off for a lot of Mac users
- the “Life is short, play more” is tacky and could be used for another input
- it would be nice if the sleep timer could be set to a specific time

I think what I appreciate most though is that Shanling is consistently pushing out updates to improve the M0 and it’s perceived value for current owners. The same can’t be said for a lot of other products.

I received the leather case a couple days ago (it was pricy! I wish I snagged one off Amazon before they disappeared) and set up playlists today using a Windows PC. Very happy with this little guy overall.

Which DSD mode setting are you using?
Running DSD64 or DSD128?

DSD is normally played quieter than PCM, it's to prevent any issues due to different mastering.

Hope it lasts longer than mine - mine fell apart within 6 months. Utter crap.

If you have any issue with your case, please contact your seller for warranty replacement.

- Can you please send me such problematic playlist to test?
- Tacky, as many other Chinese slogans
- On Q1, you can set it to exact minute, will check with software team why M0 doesn't have it yet.

DSD64 and all modes have clicks/pop. Other DAPs have gains setting for DSD. The clicks and pops ruin the transition of beethoven 5th 3rd movt to 4th movt. The same symphony using flacs are ok. Also I noticed that playback between mp3 44.1khz to another tracks that are 24bit 192hkz results in the 24/192 have warbling sound. Not so evident during music but when people are speaking....one can hear the speech perhaps not playing at correct frequency (warbling)

@Shanling

I see that not many people have pointed it out. When the M0 is connected in the DAC mode, there is a constant click/pop/crack sound with the playing audio. However, when the same audio is played through FLAC on M0 then there is no such noise. It has become annoying. I have tried all the updates, v2.4 to v3.4, nothing helps. The computer isn't the issue because it is happening with the other PCs too.

Please, would you look into it? What is the solution?

Regards.

It doesn't happen here.

Have you messed with the driver settings?
Are your PCs low performance or very busy with other tasks?
Are you trying to play high-res tracks or use upsampling? (Mind you, even my slowest Pentium laptop can upsample to 192k and send to M0 no problem)
It could be a poor USB cable - actually that's the most likely reason. Poor cable or poor contact.

Thank you for your reply, @technobear.

I wonder why is it happening with me.
The drivers haven't been tampered with.
The PC I use has 8th Gen Core i5, so I don't think that should be an issue.
RAM and CPU aren't hogged up.
It happens with even normal mp3 or streaming services.
USB cable is the default cable and almost unused and unharmed.
I even tested with another USB C cable, used a different USB port on my PC as well.
Nothing has helped.

I really don't understand what the issue might be, if not for some software issue or some issue with the M0. But M0 plays FLACs natively quite fine.

It has been bothering me since I bought it so much so that I stopped using it.

Alright. I tested right now with a significantly more powerful computer with the same cable. There were no click noises on that PC.

I have a Fiio K1 which doesn't make any noise on my original PC. Could you please share your opinion on this?

The Shanling USB driver does offer some options. The icon should appear in your System Tray when the M0 is connected as a DAC.

You could try changing the ASIO buffer size from 'Auto' to the largest size available.

The USB Streaming Mode should be 'Safe' by default and this should be fine. You could try 'Extra Safe'.

Alternatively, your player app may offer some buffer size options.

If playing through the Windows system rather than with ASIO, go into the Windows 'Sound' control panel. Select the Shanling device and then select Properties. In the Advanced tab, make sure both check boxes are checked. In the Enhancements tab, unless you really need them, disable all enhancements.

Is the USB Driver from [ http://en.shanling.com/download/56 ] installed?
If it is, then the M0 should be using it, and the FiiO K1 should be using a different driver.

Hi Shanling !
For information,

Impossible to connect M0 with a momentum true Wireless II whatever the codec chosen (sbc, aptx) Strange noises, bizarre animated screen with the bluetooth logo behind but no connection.
Have a good day
JO

Seems like you are getting into Bluetooth receiver mode by accident, when the two sides of Momentum are pairing.

You can try to either make sure both side of Momentum are connected to each other before turning on BT on M0. Or simply exit the Receiver mode and connect to them.
