Shanling M0 - Smallest Hi-Res Portable Player - New Firmware V3.6

hey everyone, for those that use this as BT receiver (connect via phone) and on LDAC mode, are FLAC files still recommended or 320kps good enough? Does it lose any quality (kinda new with the whole BT audio thing)
I'm planning to use this with A&K T8iE MkII

You can read more about LDAC on Sony website. In short, they claim they can achieve "same as CD quality" when using highest bitrate setting of LDAC(990 kbps).
https://www.sony.net/Products/LDAC/

So if you are streaming files saved on your phone, FLAC should be streamed without any noticeable loss in quality.
If you are streaming Tidal, it should play full quality.
If you are streaming Spotify(or any other lossy streaming service), using highest setting of LDAC is kind of useless and I would recommend switching to the medium setting for better connection.

thank you for the quick reply.
By "switching to the medium setting" you mean the LDAC-normal option in the bluetooth page on the M0? I set it to LDAC-Autoconnect. What's the difference b/t them?

Also, the battery with receiver mode (LDAC-HQ option) with 40% volume (max source volume), the battery doesn't seem to last longer than 8hr. Is this normal? (on latest firmware)

If you are using M0 as receiver, you set up the BT codec on your phone, M0 settings is for sending only.

Yes, 8 hours battery is normal when using with highest quality LDAC in BT receiver mode.

Having used LDAC extensively with both my receiver and bluetooth speakers for 4 years now with my A17. Use the Medium setting (660 Kbps) you won't hear a difference going to High (990 Kbps) and the range is better. The connection is also more reliable and it seems to drain the battery a little less quickly. LDAC does drain the battery faster than AptX for example so you should leave bluetooth off when not using it to conserve battery life.

LDAC is a bigger drain on the battery than other bluetooth codecs. Normal is medium or (660 Kbps) I believe. I leave mine at the same setting and don't have my A17 handy but I am pretty sure Normal is what Shanling refers to as medium. LDAC-Autoconnect is lowest quality or 320 Kbps the same as AptX.

So quick referenced - HQ is highest quality or 990 Kbps (best I get is 906 Kbps). Medium/Normal is 660 Kbps (I get about 620 Kbps), and Low/Auto-connect is near CD quality or 320 Kbps. At least this was the LDAC reference settings when I got my A17. Not sure if Sony has changed them since they released the A17. When streaming bluetooth to my Sony receiver from my A17 I can see the actual bluetooth transmission speed on my tv screen. I don't quite reach the bluetooth speeds Sony's specs give but I do get pretty close.

As you know Sony DAP's have great battery life so Sony could afford to trade a bigger battery drain for a higher quality bluetooth codec. They are one of the biggest proponents of HiRes so of course they would push the best bluetooth quality codec regardless of the trade off in battery life.

Problem is I forget to turn off the BT. I always had LDAC on, and that must have been why M0 was draining so quick. I'll just get in the habbit of shutting it off.

Yes, this is something I do with all my DAPs.

I see. Is it possible to add support for AptX to the BT receiver mode?

P/s: I can force AAC mode...I'll test to see how the battery life is. Barely any different with LDAC (to my ears). :)

What time will it correspond to ReplayGain & MQA ?
Other company products have started MQA update.

What kind of MQA support are you looking for? I just downloaded some sample files from http://www.2l.no/hires/ of MQA files in FLAC format and they play fine on the M0.

Edit: Nevermind, I understand that MQA in FLAC plays just like FLAC if there is no specific support for MQA.
