Shanling M0 Pro - Ultra-Portable Hi-Fi Player, Now With Balanced Output!
Jan 3, 2023 at 1:23 PM Post #76 of 805
Love my M0 Pro as a little balanced source for balanced portable amp device setup. ❤️ Sound clean and analog in Shanling M8 manner. 👍
Dear Sir,
Are you by accident in possession of multimeter? Could you make a picture of the cable adapter and possibly try to measure how the lines are connected so if adapter is not stocked by distributor (as it is in my country case) I can DIY myself?

I think what they are saying is that they....

Clearly they ****ed up. A no-go for me
HiBy are about to show an upgraded version of their R2. Hopefully, Fiio will upgrade M5 soon. So will have a choice

Is the bluetooth output improved over the original? I now use the M0 orig while running into some wireless earbuds that actually sound pretty good and will stay in. I originally used it wired which sounded great, but was a PITA. When wireless, when I turn my head, they will cut out briefly. Just wondering if they have a higher output transmitter.

It has different Bluetooth chip and performance should be better compared to original M0.

So certain distributors convinced you to ditch one of the key new features, that you were proud of prior to launch ? Seriously ?
Is the slot for the adapter empty or is there no slot ? If no slot, you had made the decision a long time ago. So the pre-launch rhetoric was pure BS.
A really crappy way to launch w new product.

Not at all? It was decided by us to split the adapter to lower the cost of M0 Pro for users that have no need for balanced output. For many users they want the M0 Pro just for its Bluetooth or USB output, so they do not need to overspend on the adapter.

There was never a dedicated slot for the adapter cable, it would be included in the main accessory box alongside manuals and screen protector.

Also, I don't know why you talking about us "ditching one of the key features"? It still has it all, it's just sold on side, giving customers the choice if they need it or not.

You can message your distributor, they will order the adapter with their next shipment.

And I will post the exact pintout here in a moment.

The X does go on sale sometime, of course that makes the deal sweeter- I wouldn't buy it myself unless it was 149 or less US. Plus it is pretty neutral the bass is very lean, it's fast though and you can eq it of course. But it's a very linear output, how you iems sound is how the X sounds. Although it's very controlled and smooth. I apply just a smidge of low end with mseb and stage effect just a smidge. Although with ie800 I don't have to up the bass.
It is that level of control over the sound with MSEB that has me wanting to try it. I never use an equalizer as a rule but the MSEB would still be interesting to try out. That is the thing about Canada, stuff rarely goes on sale here as the market is so small. The NAD headphones have been the only audio stuff I have been able to get great deals on being a Canadian company with their headphones developed at the National Research Council labs in Ottawa. One of the best audio testing facilities in the world.

That is your way of putting it.

The way I see it, you decided to increase your earnings by making the adapter an additional purchase (cost) for the customer.

You marketing rhetoric clearly suggested that the ability to use balanced headphones is one of the features (benefits) of the new player, albeit at the time you did not mention that customers will need to pay extra to have it. So it is not about customers paying less, it is about customers paying more.

iFi Audio has the same approach. They sell their stuff with crappy power supplies, apparently to save money for the customer. In reality, customers need to shell out extra cash on the crazy expensive iPower units. That is if they want to benefit in full from iFi's electronics. Who wouldn't ?

Seems like a messy launch. Hopefully things would sort out eventually.

Has anyone actually received one of these DAP? I’m looking for something that sounds more or less like M6U but smaller and cheaper, preferably without Android.

I would have one tomorrow or latest on Monday. I could check if and how it drives Serratus on single end and compare it to Qudelix and Sony ZX300. Once @Shanling shares the pinout I could make the adapter (if I find nice source of TRRRS 3,5mm plugs outside China).
To be fair though I don't hear difference between sources, but I can evaluate it better from usability perspective (user experience, feel in hand, connectivity, battery life etc) :)

Bug report for Shanling M0 Pro using 3.5mm to 4.4mm adapter. If I connect M0 Pro to HUM MA-1B amp (4.4mm balanced input) using adapter and 4.4mm M2M cable, I found the sound is louder on the right side, so I switch my earphones to direct connect to the adapter, I found that the sound is only on the right side... So I think this adapter while connect to the amp that can support 3.5mm unbalance input, the system thought it connected to unbalance system and send the unbalance to the amp. The work arround is I need to connect the adapter to the 4.4mm earphones first to let the system knew that this is balance, not unbalance.

So what I think for the OS should provide is "fixed balance output" option, so I don't need the workaround which is so annoying.

Anyway Shaling M0 Pro is a great little device indeed.

For those who are interested in making their own balanced plug for the M0 Pro, I believe the pin-out is

3.5mm TRRRS = L+ / R+ / L- / R- / na

na=not connected.

From local HiBy distributor. Could have been just a spoiler, though. We will see.
I, for one, am holding off for now.
