Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

Hi,

I received an ET3 yesterday and I’m really enjoying it so far.

I have a question: If two outputs are connected, for example USB and i2s do they both receive a signal or is there a way of selecting which output the audio signal is sent to?

If not that would be a great feature to add in a future firmware update!

Thanks in advance.

Great!
Can I ask what dac are you using? And if you have tried the upsampling feature?
thanks

Out of the digital outputs, the USB one has priority. So when USB is connected, it will be only one working.
You need to pull out the USB cable to let the other outputs work.

All other outputs can work alongside each other.

There is no software setting for this. Not sure if it's something software team can add.

Can you explain on with you choose to make the USB a priority output?
What are the advantages of using USB when in connection to a DAC, relatively to a I2S, spdif or aes/ebu?

My question lies on the common say that USB is not the best connection for audio? Is this right?

I’m currently using the i2s output of the ET3 into a Musician Pegasus and upsampling to dsd512. It works perfectly for both CD and upnp/dlna (using both MConnect and JPLAY iOS).

However I’m also experimenting using the USB output into a Gustard U18 (DDC) then into the Pegasus via i2s. This path means there is no upsampling as the USB output of the ET3 doesn’t support it.

The problem is I can’t decide which I like best! The upsampled signal does, as per usual with DSD, add an airiness and width that I appreciate but the reclocked signal from the Gustard even at CD sample rate is really rich and full sounding.

Shame there is no external clock input. I have a Terminator Plus and the oven controlled clock is really rather good. Though I have limited knowledge of I2S I understand that makes the use of an external clock via a dedicated clock input less beneficial. Perhaps someone can clarify that for me.
Also, and this is news to me, I hear there is such a thing as balanced I2S and unbalanced I2S. Is the ET3 HDMI output balanced? Is I2S over HDMI always balanced?

We recommend I2S with upsampling as the best sounding output out of the ET3.
The USB has priority in the system, as it works differently and the system kind of needs to set itself for it.

Is there a plan to introduce NAA protocol for HQPlayer streaming as well?

Prepared sort of Advanced User Manual for ET3, going over different settings in menu and covering some items that might be missing in the quick start guide:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gG3DKF71QQFx_fCXXfFkAnpWH1Kl3PyE/view?usp=drive_link

Let me know if you would have any feedback or would be missing anything.

Thanks for the more detailed manual.

I'm surprised at how much I'm using the ET3s streaming functionality, it works really well.

I'm also using it with an Apple TV 4K as an Airplay receiver. It works great with most apps... apart from Youtube which I believe requires Airplay 2 on the Apple TV.

Can I ask if the ET3 uses Sharepoint-sync for its airplay feature? If so is it using the Airplay 1 protocal? It would be great if in a future update sharepoint-sync's recent ability to work with Airplay 2 could be added.

Best regards
