Shanling EH3 - Desktop DAC/AMP with Wi-Fi, USB Drive Playback and Flagship ESS ES9039PRO DAC

Hi,

Thanks a lot for this firmware update...

It seems that it killed Wi-Fi, but all in all after fighting a lot with it, I managed to get it back on the Wireless network either as a server as a renderer...

But it for sure killed all compatibility with Neutron Player : it can not send anything to the EH-3 without killing hte Wi-Fi (making the device unrecognizable to any other app, including Eddict).

But I still have no ability to use it with my favourite DLNA app as advertised in your own web page (I can send screenshot if you require it).

Regards.

No need to be sending us screenshots of our own website.

Noted on the Neutron Player.

Does it work with Eddict player, MConnect and others for DLNA as before? Not sure what is your "favourite DLNA app".

After long struggles, I managed to get the EH-3 to be discovered by Neutron again.
For a long time, it was not detected, neither as a server nor as a renderer by ANY app ! Not even Eddict...
Then it appeard but connection was super not stable.
I waited and waited ; turned the device off several times and after a while, it popped up again.

Concerning my favourite apps, I think you already know those.

1°) Emby
Does not work because it can't skip to next track.

2°) Hi-Fi cast
Can't read files from the EH-3 as media server => error message.
Can play files but stops after first one.

3°)Bubble UPnP
Can read files from the EH-3 used as a media server.
Can play files but stops after first track.

4°) Symfonium
Can read to the EH-3 as a renderer, but stops playback after one track.

5°) UAPP
Can read tracks fromt he EH-3 as a media server.
Can playback to the the EH-3 but only in "BitPerfect" mode.
Should you want to apply EQ, or PEQ you have to disable "BitPerfect" mode and then, playback most of the times does not even start.

6°) Neutron
Does not detect the the EH-3 as a media renderer.
can play files to the EH-3 with PEQ applied. But playback gets scrambled randomly (sometimes after 3 minutes sometimes I can listen to 2 complete Dvorak symphonies with no scramble... random).

I think that we are FAR away from being able to use the EH-3 with our favorite DLNA app...

The device works with Eddict, but I will not agian list all the features missing in Eddict that makes this a not viable solution (for me).

Regards.

Hi,

Weird.

I posted simple facts about this product that I own.

I can make a simple statement : there has been NO ANSWER in a month.
And I can only note that there has been NO POST whatsoever about this in a month.

Since there has been no answer, here is the screenshot of you own webpage.
Maybe you can elaborate about that "EH-3 will play smoothly with your favourtie DLNA app and local server" claim ?
That will probably enlighten a lot of potential customers...

Regards.

This is topic that was discussed multiple times before.

EH3 is currently compatible with Eddict player app, MConnect app (possible also others, we don't test all DLNA/UPnP apps)

Our software team is working on improvements and will post when we have any update.

Hi,

Thanks for your annswer.

This topic may have been discussed multiple times before, but after my last post, it is YOU who asked what my favourite DLNA software is.
I replied to you.

And I thank you for you answer.
That answer confirms that the EH-3 can not be used with "my favourite" DLNA app.
Despite what the commercial announcement ad states.
Which can be considred as deceptive advertising...

By the way, unless I am mistake, I think mConnect only works if you disable the "gapless playback" option.
Which results in the loss of gapless playback.

Your software team is working on improvements since months.
I don't think any customer has noticed an improvement with the updates.

Many thanks for enlightening us on all these apsects.

Any one had the opportunity to compare the Shanling EH3 to the FiiO K9 Pro ESS ?

Hi,

Not me. But I have had the opportunity to compare to other Fiio devices : R7, R9 especially.
They both have ESS DAC's so I guess the comparison can make some sense...

All I can say : sound of the EH-3 is superlative.
I think the R7 and R9 cannot compete.

But I had to fight so much with the EH-3 to get it to work to my liking that I decided to give up.
I am now using the Fiio R9.

It does not sound as good as the Shanling.
But at least I can appreciate listening to my music.

And I think the trade is worth the slight regression in sound.
Especially since you can "tune" the sound of the Fiio with their systemwide PEQ...
Something you can not even dream about with Shanling EH-3.

Regards.

Thank you for your answer.
Would you say the EH3 is superior for a basic use case (DAC/AMP connected to a PC via toslink in my case) without touching the Shanling app / wireless / network stuff ?

I think i'll give it a try, it may be futile but the design of the K9 Pro ESS is an eyesore in my setup, but obviously i don't want the sound quality to take a step back.

Tu seras déçu. Le mien est parti car en plus de tous les points évoqués il est un peu criard. Testé avec un Hifiman Stealth.
Sauf si tu trouves une occasion par chère alors peut-être valide?
