Sennheiser x Massdrop HD6XX Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

No email from mass drop. I am still curious about any benefits of a higher end headphone.

I'm still amazed by my low cost stuff. I'm extremely skeptical of the benefits of higher end equipment and kinda want to get something on the cheap to prove all of you wrong. :)

It is always this with high-end equipment - you are fine and happy until you hear them. I have no doubt, you can prove everyone wrong, for now.

Same.  One more month until they ship!  One long month.

I'd love to see an HD8xx for maybe $500, but that's probably just a pipe dream.

As i'd love to see Focal EleaXX for like 500$ too

How about Utopia for $1000 ?

1k is still too much...

I'm against any hi-fi device beyond price of $700 honestly... I don't believe their snake oil and placebo effects.

HD800 is now $800 USD. That's the truth and that's the best of what we get... no need to pay $4k+

Would you buy this Devon watch for 9k?

I have a self-imposed spending limit on audio gear as well. I am based in the UK so work in pounds but I have not spent more than the equivalent of $800 on any one item.

Diminishing returns kick in hard after that point.

The HD600, HD650 and now HD6XX just present such good value in the headphone world. Super comfortable, well made, parts are user replaceable and they have a really smooth and coherehent frequency that cannot be beat, and they scale up like crazy. Other much more expensive headphones may do one thing a little better but will often have drawbacks and sacrifices. I love my HD800; the resolution and details beats the HD650 but they are lacking in bass for my liking, can sound dry in the midrange and occasionally piercing in the highs. Everything becomes are trade-off but there are no such trade-offs with the HD650's in my opinion.
