I also ordered ear pads from Allied Express for the RS180 and RS 195.  What I recieved were generic, thin and no  possible way to fit them.  Cheap is usually cheap.

The pads for RS 175 and RS 185 are made of different materials but they should be about the same size.

Is there a difference in sound quality between the 175 and 195? I want a close-backed headset and I'm not looking to use any of the hearing-impaired features on the 195. Usage is mostly for TV shows and movies, alone with a bit of FPS gaming.

I had first bought the RS 180 .  Great for music but I found it wanting for movies so I bought the RS 195. (here in Israel with shipping and extra taxes we pay twice the USA price).  You will be glad to hear  that in America (and here) the price went ddown.  The RS 195 is great both for music and the best to hear audio voices too.
For some reason Sennheiser pre-programs the RS 195 at the factory, while you have other options. Unfortunately this leaves the audio at a low level, I almost fainted. The manual explains easily (at the end) how to re-program and the level can go very, very, very high. Its a matter of price, I do love them for films, music.  The RS 175 I read are flimsy. The RS 185 is  a questtion.  Maybe they too are good for voice audio???

With the RS 175, you'll enjoy a strong bass (ideal for home entertainment) while the RS 195 offers better midrange clarity. Of course, the additional features are different for both products. The former comes with dynamic bass and virtual surround sound modes while the latter comes with hearing assist functions.

Please allow me to introduce myself.

I realize this is my first post in this forum, but I discovered you fine people through the magic of Google, and you provide me with a lot of good Tips and Tricks.
I own The RS 175 base and the HDR 185 headphones. I´m really loving them so far.

But i really dislike the Surround sound feature.

Sennheiser realest the GSX 1000 a few weeks ago so thought that might be a solution for the bad Surround Sound experience. I ordert one on Amazon for 220€ today. That`s a lot of money for a Student like me, so i hope it will blow my mind, but as far as i know the GSX 1000 will not Amplify the sound of the RS Systems in any form because the RS Systems have there own Amp and Dac so I will miss one of the main features of the GSX 1000.

Is there anyone interested in a small Review of my solution?

Does someone already know a good solution for a better Surround Sound experience? I would`t mind a cheaper one :D

Hi @godal

Those GSX devices look interesting, not sure how they stayed off my radar.  The GSX 1000 has a few different outputs, one of which seems to be a headphone output.  If you receive the device then why not try connecting a headphone jack to red/white RCA plugs onto the wireless base station?  If you have a cable lying around then it can't hurt to try.  I don't know if it will sound great, but it should work to some extent.

I don't have much experience with hardware surround sound simulators, but you may wish to take a look at ViPER4Windows.  If you're familiar with Android you may have heard of the software on that platform.  It lets you add bass, clarity, "3D Surround", reverberation, room acoustics etc.  It can take a while playing with the settings to get something that sounds realistic, but the surround effect is there (particularly for gaming which I assume is what you're after).

Another option would be to invest in some dedicated surround sound wireless headphones instead of getting the GSX 1000.  Sony's MDR-HW700DS come to mind and they are often on sale with Amazon(s) for €299 or less.

I have the 195 which is great for  videos and music also.  What you might check is the build of the RS 175.  Is it comfy?  Is it stable?
The RS195 is heavier by far than my RS 180 but both can be worn 12 hours or more without a stop. It seems from the photos that the RS 175 is the same build as the RS 195 so I imagine the 175 is also comfortable.
In general I've noticed  the price of RS 195 going down a lot.  maybe they promised too much (I use  them without the 6 various sound change positions) which means that basically its a regular headphone good for music and video.  I haven't tried  the 175 or 185, MAYBE they are a step up over the  earlier 195, I don't know. Best idea is to try all 3.

Can you tell me a bit about the noise isolation please? Thats something that matters to me, since I play PC games and hearing everyone around me is a bit annoying.

Interesting ...

Likewise, I too just received my RS 175, and placed an order for the HDR 185 just yesterday!
Curious to know if you have a preference between the two?
Also, what was your reasoning for acquiring the additional HDR 185 and not a 2nd HDR 175?
