No way variation can beat ie900. The natural timbre of ie900 is just way better than variation, I agree the mids are subdued on ie900,but the bass texture and high notes timbre of ie900 is exceptional. The timbre of variation sounds really plastic and cheap

I don't listen to the bass separately, I listen to the music as a whole and for me the Variations sound better overall. The timbre is in frequency response so I will not go further in this topic :)

Understand, but I don't look at graph, I just tell what I hear that variation sounds plastic while ie900 sounds natural

Hello, I am starting to get into iem's and am seriously considering the ie 900. I see there are a bunch on ebay for 500-750 with some claiming sealed. How crazy would I be to purchase off ebay? Are these heavily faked?

Running yggy/flux mentor with he1000se/dca e3 as home headphone setup.

Appreciate the help.

Ie900 has a lot of fakes. Don't risk it on eBay

Unfortunately, there are many, many fakes on the market. There are so many fakes you won't believe it. Moreover, it is sold at the same prices as the original. However, it is also possible to distinguish the fake from the original. There are studies on the internet that reveal the differences. It's actually very simple, I think.

Sharing my True story --
1. Purchased IE900 from Mercari, found a seller with great feedbacks. ($650 + Tax).
2. As soon he sold me one, he reposted two more IE900 for sale. That created some suspicion. I asked him how come he has so many IE900? He said he buys in bulk from Sennheiser and gets a special discount! That moment I knew it was fake.
3. Found high quality fake IE900 in AliEx for $150-$175 range. For a new buyer almost impossible to differentiate. They are that good.
4. Luckily was able to return it and get a refund.

Bought my IE900 from Sennheiser directly for $999 + Tax.
Would highly suggest buying them directly from Sennheiser or buy from someone on Head-Fi with long positive history.
It's such a great IEM, worth the extra hassle\money to ensure you get an authentic one.

Good luck on your search :)
Thank you.

On the graph the ie900 seem more pushed back in the upper mids but they sound cleaner and more separated overall, so the vocals, even tho they lack a bit of energy, dont lack clarity and are extremely well separated from the instruments.
Totally agree, this surprised me from the first audition, I was expect to something else based on the graph.

Does anyone have side-by-side pictures of the IE600 and IE900 nozzles? My IE600 has foam behind, but the IE900 does not - is that normal?
Foam IN the nozzle or the one between the ear tip and nozzle tip?

Neither my (recently sold) IE 600 nor 900 have foam in the actual nozzle or tube, only the one that’s in the eartips that serves as an earwax filter and VERY slightly dampens some treble.

behind the nozzle and drivers. I can clearly see into the housing of the ie900, but not in the ie600
Yeah that’s odd, with a strong flashlight and macro camera you can see the metallic housing of the IE 900 and the white/silverish driver membrane but no foam.

Maybe it’s excess glue? I know they used a black, velvety glue on the IE800 to glue the driver housing to the shell, but they shouldn’t be noticeable unless you remove the nozzle which might be destructive.

That is what I see with the ie900. The ie600 has a foam behind the grill and you can't see the driver or housing.
May it be there for acoustic tunning like Sony IEMs
