For those of you who use the stock medium silicone tips, I would like to share with you my latest EQ, that takes them to another level and outperforms any other IEM I have heard (KSE1200 included):
Use a pre-gain of -8 dB.
Use a pre-gain of -8 dB.
my orginal unit was made in GERMANY and the RMA unit was in IRELAND. cables looks less quality compared to made in germany version.Has anyone bought IE900 on Amazon recently? Wondering if we can still buy the ones made in Germany now. Thank you
For 4.4 cable there is small plastic cap on the connector plastic head.
I felt made in germany was little bit more fine aluminium compared to the ireland one. May the unit i got was little unpolished.
Edges are also bit scratchy
SQ wise no changes. I feel the same

Hard to tell by this picture alone. These pictures might help you to spot a red flag:

100% counterfeit.
I bought a counterfeit IE900 from AliExpress for my sister and was able to compare them a few months ago, the most obvious differences are the machining (the original is clearly CNC'd while the fake is clearly a mold), as well as details in the "IE900" logo on the left side (the original is also machined and embossed, while the fake appears black painted like yours).
I think @rggz 's post illustrates well the main features of the original IE900, but here are some additional photos comparing one to the other.
Counterfeit left, original right in all photos except in the last one, where I put the original accidentally on the left and the fake on the right:

It's crazy how close these look, even the packaging. It's so disheartening, should be a crime to do this100% counterfeit.

Indeed.
In fact, in terms of sound they are not bad compared to the originals either, the main difference is in the mids (higher pinna gain in the counterfeit, Harman level) and the treble (much more extended and detailed in the originals), while the bass is more or less at a similar level.
After EQing both to the Harman target with slight personal adjustments, they sound virtually the same (although this is also true with the IE300s, which I find sound virtually identical to the IE900s both stock and with EQ).

Actually, it's not mine, it's a picture the seller send me from this listing: https://www.head-fi.org/classifieds/sennheiser-ie900-under-warranty.52045/
The seller didn't knew it was fake too, he even gave my money back on a trade we were planing.
@Sanaycasino please remove the listing.
Fakes devalue the product in the second hand market too, so not good if you are one of those head-fiers that like to buy and sell stuff frequently. Luckily I'm not one of those.
IMO Best to only buy new from a Sennheiser authorised seller.
Its not just Sennheiser that this applies to either, there are plenty of good fakes out there for all the major brands.

I apologize for the bad news, but the "IE900" print is a clear indicator of it being a counterfit.Guys, do you think these are counterfeit ?
My unit is sharply etched by machine and upon seeing your photo it shows that it is not - or at least not to its ideal quality.

I appreciate the photos however if this is an accurate way of telling them apart then I'm lost, I have a different box again (neither of the two shown) in terms of the layout on the back, original cables - going by the slider, original certificate, a tan therefore counterfeit case, original tips, and from the IE900 branding and nozzles - original pieces however I purchased them second hand so don't know for sure they are the real McCoys - sound good though.100% counterfeit.

Maybe you have one of the first IE900 units made in Germany, on which they have been based to make the fake version (hence the golden case and different box).
Anyway, the important thing is that the earpieces are original, in which case you can see the clear differences with these photos.
If they sound good then to me, that's all that matters. Love the ie900s. Amazing sound from such a small form factor.I appreciate the photos however if this is an accurate way of telling them apart then I'm lost, I have a different box again (neither of the two shown) in terms of the layout on the back, original cables - going by the slider, original certificate, a tan therefore counterfeit case, original tips, and from the IE900 branding and nozzles - original pieces however I purchased them second hand so don't know for sure they are the real McCoys - sound good though.
