I have the galaxy cable from zeroshoe off eBay and the the sound coming from the left earpiece seems to have a little more "detail". Is that even possible or is it my ears? Or is there such thing as cable imbalance?

Probably a bad termination job, leaving some contacts loose.

But then it should be a volume imbalance.

Try switching the connectors around (L to R, etc.) to see hear if the "detail" follows the cable or it's the Senn earpiece. That way you'll know for sure which witch is which.

If any owners would be kindlly willing to loan out a pair of their genuine IE80s to http://rinchoi.blogspot.com/?m=0. I would gladly return the favor with one of my favorite IEMs I've heard. PM me for details

Does anybody know if the IE80s are being discontinued? They are not listed on their website unless I specifically search for them. (In other words they are not listed under the "Headphones & Headsets" page that I could find.) I thought the IE800s might be a replacement but clearly they are not.

Thanks

Hi badhack,

We've not discontinued the IE 80s. They are still available on our websites:
Global website - http://en-de.sennheiser.com/earphones-high-end-hifi-stereo-passive-noise-reduction-ie-80
US site - http://en-us.sennheiser.com/earphones-high-end-hifi-stereo-passive-noise-reduction-ie-80

Do ie80s require any break-in period? I just received mine and bass seems to hit very hard even at lowest setting. I'm wondering if it will get better after breaking them in.

Hi Rosmadi, Cool, good to know. Why aren't they listed on your site? Which sennheiser IEM are considered high end or audiophile?

I'm sure they are listed online but I'll double-check with my new media colleagues later. The IE 800 are our top-of-the-line ear-canal phones with numerous ground breaking innovations. A notch lower, we have the IE 80, which is capable of producing an outstanding high fidelity sound.

Hi aras,

You can run pink noise or your normal music at a regular listening level. However, your IE 80 will also reach the same burn-in state after a certain period of normal usage.

I was contemplating on which headphone iem I want now that I lost my shure 535 ..which I did like alot..so I've read alot about these but was kinda scared on buying them cause I am not a bass head at all..specially coming from like I said the 535 and the likes of the er4s and heir audio 4ai.. But I wanted something different so I thought I'd give these a chance...and boy did I make the rite decision.. Should have pulled the trigger on these a long time ago..these are simply amazing..I think the pretty much blow away every iem I have ever owned and I've owned some higher end ones as I've mention..the bass is tight controlled and deffently there..the mids seemed to be pushed back a bit but still really nice and creamy I find..even the highs and really sweet and sparkly..and can't say enough about the soundstage.. Wow.. Yup I love these things..I juat got these last night and can't wait to hear them change sound wise for the better..I never really understood letting them sit and burn in then listen to them..I just prefer listening to them and hearing them change rite in front of my ears sorta speak..one thing I do find lacking is the tips..can't really find a decent set of stock ones..I'm using my medium pair of silicone ones I got with my heir 4ais.. But other then that these are. By far the best iems by quit a bit that I've owned.. Love these :)

That's interesting as I think of the IE80's as having mega amounts of bass, controlled with most music IMO, but still a bass head's IEM.
I agree there is loads of bass..but I love rockn roll and there is bass in rockn roll..I just find them really tight and controlled.. I haven moved the bass dial any as I think there is lots just the way they came..I've tried beats in the past and found them to have bass that's bloated and not controlled.. There is deffently a difference..I also like how much detail these things have..I really wasn't expecting that..it was a nice surprise sorta speak..jjust my opinion...but I am really liking these. :)
