Anyone have any recommendations for an LOD that would sound great with a Rockboxed iPod, FiiO E11 amp, and silver cabled IE80?

Has any one tried the ie80 with the ie8 cable? Just curious if there is a difference.

I have tried both cables and they sound the same. The IE8 cable is of better quality and less prone to stiffness though.

I have a serious problem now. I have completely lost interest in upgrading gears.

The music just sounds spectacular (especially on Monday). As we speak I am listening to the minidisk version of Beethoven's 9th Symphony on my RB'd ipod video using the EX1000 (sorry the IE80 owners). I feel like I am flying in heaven. Yes it is that f__ing good.

The EX1000 are indeed spectacular with classical, especially orchestral music. But I have to admit, the IE8/80 are no slouch either.

In a way I wish the EX1000s worked out for me but in the end it wasn't my cup of tea. The graph is correct in this case lol.

Funny you mentioned it, I just came across this post, that points out that the well known sonove EX1000 graph seems to be a bit off. So, which graph would be correct, in your opinion?

I think that the tested frequency response for the EX1000 is a little off, as it isn't nearly as treble heavy as the graph would suggest. (The innerfidelity graph is a little more balanced.)

The IE8 cable sounds warmer, very good flexibilty, seems more fragile and rubbery.

EX has treble emphasis and would not agree with Innerfidelity's curve. Treble seems to make them sound detailed and wider.

As Bokyung said they go hand in hand. They compliment each other for the enjoyment of my music. Both are sounding dynamic with power and energy - EX1000 being airy and speedy (or I call it aerodynamic which is why good for orchestral with lots of wind instrument) and the IE80 being elastic and extended. As I mentioned, the EX1000 struggles when music is dominated by violin sound at higher notes, while the IE80 is a specialist handling that with its silky smooth and elastic treble.

Overall, the IE80's are more versatile and sound more genuine and serious. But the EX1000 can sound very entertaining and pleasing.

Thing is how are we to really determine that inerfidels graph is objectively more balanced? What if his graph is masking things more?

The Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack - Concerning Hobbits

I am not a fan of the movie but really love the music. You got to listen to the CD. Crank up the vol as much as you can take.

Pictures are worth a thousand words. So you also prefer the IE80 over the EX1000? How about if you just had the Stock cable on the IE80? Would the EX1000 be more to your liking then?

The EX isn't bought, they were for audition, I have certainly canceled them out of my wish list, They just didn't sound right, then some owners said it was probably the fit issue, but even they sold off the EX within a few weeks of owning them. The IE80/8 stock cable are warmish, and not too bad as well, I have the IE8 and the IE80, there are differences between them on stock and switch around, the IE8 cable on the IE80 makes the SQ even warmer and bloated as compared to their intended cables. With the Silver cables, much improvement overall, clarity, transparency, bass texture, mids and the highs, all seem even more appealing.

Yeah I was curious about the IE80 and IE8 cable as well. That alone may account for some of the differences between the sound. But I feel they still tuned the IE80 differently...
