If you are a basshead, the IE8 and W3 and UE11Pro are good ones to consider. UE11Pro is the best bass head IEM.

Better late than never... the IE8 are very very fine phones, right out of the box.

Here's a few photos I took of them, if anyone's interested: photo.elektrokrishna.com

So I took the plunge and picked up the IE8s from Headroom. The deal was just too good to say no to.

I found out that my friends sounded too bassy because he had them cranked up to 5. I tried his at 1 and was very impressed.

The soundstage right out of the box is amazing! Great bass and the mids are pretty silky.

I am just starting to burn them in so I can compare them to my other two main IEMS (Shure SE530 and Westone 3) later...but so far, I am impressed (now that I have figured out the bass adjustment thing).

My only disappointment is the sound isolation is not as good as the Shure olives, or complys with my Westone 3s.

on the isolation issue, just fiddle around with it a lil'. those that are slightly uncomfortable can actually ease in over time as well =)

I've actually tried fiddlin a bit with them and I've got a pretty good seal, it's just that the isolation is not as good as the Shure olives.

They are pretty comfortable now!
Thanks!

I loved my IE8 a lot when i first got it, right from out of the box. The "not so good seal to get best sound" trick works for me when i use the default silicon tips, using comply the bass becomes overwhelming and the whole presentation becomes muddy. After the 1st day of usage the bass toned down, and i don't hear much of a difference after that. I like the build quality too, very soft yet very sturdy cable! The case looks nice too, but its too impractical for portable use, i got a UE case for it instead.

All was good until i auditioned the TF10pro a few times in the local shops..

Nice pics! Does that mean we can expect a full review of the ie8's on a.b.i.?

For some reason this has surprised me. I am glad you made the decision and really look forward to your opinions in due course.

I thought this also and the burn in process becomes a joy whereby an already satisfactory IEM becomes progressively better and better. IMHO the SQ after 700 hours is several orders of magnitude better than when out of the box.

Having experimented with tips, incl Hybrid and Hybrid/dble flange sandwich, both of which improved the SQ. Then I moved on to ACS custom moulds. The result is very sweet indeed and something which I can totally recommend.

Ownership of these has been an ongoing blast. I hope you enjoy yours too.

No, they don't isolate as well as the SE530's but I can't think of any other IEMs that do. That's a trade-off that I can easily live with for the musical enjoyment that the IE8's give me.

Rebski, I was a bit surprised myself, but the only thing I regret is that I didn't get them earlier. Here's how I would rate them, on the 2nd day: Comparison of 28 popular IEMs (Spreadsheet) - Headphones - abi>>forums - of course that will change, once I get more accustomed to them.

Thanks for the interesting link, Rebski. I've got to read through the whole ACS thread, but I've been thinking about custom tips for some of my IEMs for a long time (or even a total re-molding, in case of the SE530). Are the ACS tips removable, or permanently attached to the IE8? I have to see if my local audiologist/hearing-aid specialist can make me some tips like these.

Hey,

the thing with the IE8 is that the Bass Adjuster is acting as a vent (i.e. letting in sound)
therefore you will never achieve full isolation, even with a good seal.

That is probably part of it, the other part is that nothing fills a seal like the Shure olives. Combined that may explain it.

Then again a total seal would limit the amazing soundstage these things have.
