Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

I'm feeling a the same way as EuropenEar.
I have loved my HD800 since I bought them in 2012, no matter what dac or amp combination I've connected them to.
Right now, I'm enjoying them listening to native DSD64 with Bryston dac and amp.
I can't imagine that the HD800S would be that much better with my combination, but I'd still like to try ...

A/B tests could be really tricky because you can easily make your decision favoring excess values.  I mean if you have a brighter sounding pair of headphones and a more natural one the latter may feel a bit dull in direct comparison.  However, the most important thing is if you can live together with the gear you buy.  One night stand vs happy marriage.

I was A/Bing HD 800 and HD 800S on different gear a few times and after listening to the 800 I was missing the trebles on the 800S.  Still the 800S has the more balanced, natural sound that is easier to live with imho.

Yeah. No problem A/Bing headphones from the same family/house sound to see which I prefer, but my current headphones (HD800S, TH-X00, sr60e, AD2000x and PM-3) all sound quite different (on purpose) so changing quickly distorts views a bit.

When I purchased my hd800/s I abed every single flagship in the shop by the moment I heard the hd800s, I instantly told the in-charge this is it. And I'm their first sienheiser customer since it just arrive while I was at the place haha.

And I love it with my CDM :D

Its a subtle yet noticeable improvement, but if you are 100% happy with the original then stay contented ! The hd800s is just a better balanced headphone overall, but you may actually be one of the people who prefer the original, my friend is the same.

HaHa. Are any of us ever 100% contented?
That would take the fun out of things ...
I'd still like to try the HD800S, then sell one or maybe keep both

Sad report that it looks like I'll be selling my 800S.

I've been using them over the weekend and I'm having real comfort issues. It causes a hotspot at the top of my head no matter what setting or position I use.

I bought them for general listening, gaming and movies - and they did those jobs better than I thought.

Really impressive headphones.
