Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

:raised_hand:that would be me! Had the Hd800s since 2016 and found a wonderful match with the Kimber Axios cable - such wonderful synergy. I must confess I strayed a little recently when I bought the 1266TC . The TC's great in many areas but for sheer scale/air in pieces like the Inception soundtrack or Beethoven's 7th, I still go back to the 800s.

Anyone here has flagship headphones like the Susvara, TC and Raal and are still smitten by the HD800S?

I own those 3, and during a recent audio session at Sennheiser, really loved the 800S and considering purchasing it, lol. Had heard it too briefly earlier.

Me. I’ve owned two of the three and listened extensively enough to have a sense of the third (Raal). Some songs sound better on an HD800S than on any other TOTL headphone (though amp matters a lot). WA33 and 430HAD are outstanding with it, for example, because they don’t overegg in the detail department and thereby tame the outstanding soundstage and well coordinated imaging of the Sennheiser. I feel like the same amps that add forwardness to the more laid back headphones like LCD4, ruin the HD800S which needs taming and control.

On a related note, I’m really struggling to find an upgrade to the HD800S. Every other headphone I’ve tried while adding something also takes away some essential quality of the music and just doesn’t do it for me. The only other brand of headphone I’ve been impressed with is Grado (only the PS1000e, RS1e, and 325 and in that order). While clearly technically inferior to the 800S, they bring out emotion in the music in a way no other headphones quite seem to. They’re just that bit more organic sounding (whereas the HD800S can be a tad metallic at times).

Lots of subjective impressions but hey.

TRUTH! It’s amazing that no one has yet managed to create a true 100% HD800S killer.

Yeah. I own a Susvara, TC, SR1a. Have ordered an LCD5, SR009S, and a Stellia. Have heard crazy speaker setups. Owned a decent pair myself.

But the HD800S still shocks me in terms of how natural and lifelike it sounds.

Yeah, tell me about that Amator!

I just sold the last of the other headphones I own and am left only with the HD800S. I like it so much I couldn’t justify owning anything else because they all annoyed me in comparison. I’ll probably pick up an RS1e (or x if they’re making one?) and be done. I’m sad I sold the 1000e tbh.

Yes, the 800S is a very special Headphone .
If today a company would develop and build such a Headphones ,
probably the Headphones would be safe over 4K cost 🤣
I'm probably going to get the 800S now buy second time .
And I need all the overpriced new Releases not . :deadhorse:

I tested susvara, kept Hd800S. Enjoyed the fast attack and realism, they just seemed more dynamic. The hd800S isn’t a harmonious warm syrupy hp that’s for sure, but that’s what makes them attractive to me.

For the HD800S you get 24 months of warranty from the time of purchase?

No problem with mine, just asking to be sure.
