So anyone have any albums to recommend for the HD-800.

I mean, as I said I love listening to all genres of music on these. And I know which genres the HD-800 do the best. I was just wondering if anyone has had any albums that MUST be heard on these. If that makes sense...

Basically albums you've heard on these that sounded jaw dropping.

'Jazz at the Pawnshop'  - the 1996 XRCD release is particularly good - quick, go now!

x2 on this, although I own the k2hd version.

Other noteworthy favorites of mine:

1 - Ella and Louis Again MFSL 2 disk set (occasionally comes up used at a reasonable price, don't get gouged...)

2 - Oscar Peterson Trio - We Get Requests (k2hd)

3- 1984 pressing of Billie Holiday - Song's for Distingue Lovers

4- Pee Wee Russell - Portrait of Pee Wee

5 - Rusty Dedrick - Salute to Bunny (see: http://www.head-fi.org/t/552831/awesome-demo-quality-jazz-cd-for-cheap-music-recommendation )

6 - Although not as uber detailed as the others on this list - http://www.eclassical.com/24bit/stabat-mater.html is absolutely stunning thanks to the HD800's amazing soundstage.  If you like the sound of this, the Suzuki/Bach Collegum Japan recordings on eclassical are also definitely worth checking out.  [Note eclassical actually lets you stream the entire contents of their collection for free, it just auto pauses every 30secs to induce you to buy.  Really nice when trying to get a feel for what you like/don't like though]

Happy listening!

I know the EQ isn't clipping the signal.  The point is using the EQ creates a signal which the drivers can't handle.  The drivers are pretty much clipping mechanically.  I asked for details of the EQ curve because driver excursion increases as frequency increases and too much driver excursion is what's causing the issue.

Agreed.  The only kind of distortion that sounds like paper crackling along with the situation described could only lead to this logical conclusion.  Diaphragm is crinkling.  Headphone distortion graphs also help in this area.  AFAIK there is only one make of headphone available that can reproduced reference subbass at reference volumes with linear low distortion through the entire frequency response...up to 15 watts I think.

My personal favourite album for the HD800s would have to be the Amelie Original Soundtrack by Yann Tiersen.
These two songs in particular:

and

Of course, non-Youtube versions are preferable...

HD800 coming my way. Serial number: 12747.

Should have them by Wednesday! :) And then the HD800 vs ATH-AD2000 comparison will commence. The AD2K easily beat out my (ex-)T1. The T1 is technically superior to the AD2K in a lot of ways, but the crazy crazy massive treble spike on the T1 really bothered me. Accentuated sibilance with certain female singers. And the HD800 I expect to be technically superior to the AD2K as well. But which will I LIKE more? We shall see! The sound stage difference between the two headphones should be immense.

That said, I am hoping the HD800 sounds as good as it looks on the Inner Fidelity graphs. No major spikes. Still some spikes, of course, but none even half as tall as the T1 8-9k range spike. I go in with high expectations. I am expecting this to be my ultimate headphone! Well, at least until the next set of flagships from the major players arrive.

Can't wait! :D

Yeah?  Like how?  Bear in mind I'm not a fan of either so no dog in that race.

Well, this is the HD800 thread so I'll keep things minimal. In my opinion, more depth to and wider soundstage, better imaging, greater clarity, more comfortable albeit heavier, more luxurious. But nasty treble. Nasty nasty treble. Just my thoughts. Others will have differing opinions and obviously some people may prefer larger or smaller soundstages.

But back to the HD800. I am very much looking forward to this. :)

Just curious.  The AD2000 didn't work for me (for more than 15 secs x 3) but it's very, very fast and clean.  Hope the 800 works out.

Are you referring to the HD800's lol? There might be some peaks, but it's not "nasty treble". It's just bothersome to some who expect perfection in such an expensive headphone (which is comprehensible).

Here's my prediction, you won't be using the audio technica's much more once you get the senns.
