Instead of amping it with a warm amp to get a weightier sound, what if someone wants to amp it with a  bright amp to get a speedier sound?

^ probably = tinnitus

harmony design ear909 is really underrated here.  i don't know, it's just, a balanced hd800 with ear909 just.... it's really something very special together

Yeah, there is nothing much about the Harmony Design Ear 909 at all, on Head Fi..........

Will try and audition in the next few weeks.

100+ hours on my HD800 now and it is really falling into place sonically!

A lot smoother sounding with less etch to images. Dynamically, it has come alive. Bass has more weight and texture, but still lacking decay to me. Soundstaging has expanded quite nicely, definitely more out of head sounding with great depth.

Speed ≠ Brightness.

Some treble does subjectively enhance attack/impact and that could contribute to a feeling of more speed, but speed really refers to transient response. Quality and length of attack, sustain, decay.

Of course it isn't, but don't tell that to two-thirds of head-fi who wrongfully categorize HD650 as sluggish and ill-detailed and Grados as super detailed Formula One cars.

That's right. You can have a warm, smooth sound with great speed.

HD800 + LF and 009 + LL in the house...Man I love the HD800s...but damn this is impressive.

So far I've come to this conclusion...The 009 reminds me a lot of the HD800 and I think the 009s sound like everything people want the HD1000 to be. A flat out better across the board HD800.

Glad to hear it.  Once you hear the next level from the HD800 it really is something else.  It also helps to put various comments into perspective.  I've had similar results and have yet to hear any SS amp take the 800s to that next level.  Tubes are no guarantee to do that either and can often go the other direction IMHO.

You will soon.

009s are extremely detailed, but clinical and flat. HD800s are quite a bit more enjoyable, IMO. The pair are similar, but where HD800 has the massive encompassing soundstage with pinpoint imaging, the 009s have a smaller soundstage and have a flatter presentation and have a drier signature.

The LL amp brings up the fun on the 009 close to the 800s level but it takes a micro detail hit to do so IMHO.  The SS changes little if any.
