Just got these a few hours ago, don't really know what to think of them at the moment... except that they are extremely comfortable, I can barely tell that they're on.

I'll give them a few days then put my HE-500 back on to compare sinceI have 14 days to decide whether I want to keep them or not.

I actually wish the HD800 clamped a little more. Slides around too easily when I lay back. Luckily I don't roll over in my sleep and haven't crushed em yet. :D

Keep the HE-500 / HD 800 and get rid of the Ultrasone edition 8.

Already done. :) I returned them. I still keep them in my sig because if anyone has questions about them I might be able to answer since I had them for 2 weeks.

In fact I only have the HE-500 and HD800 left. I gave the HD650 to a friend and sold the other ones.

I forgot how good HD800s are. I was listening exclusively to HE-4 and HE-500 for the past couple of months because of their bigger bass quantity but sparkling HD-800 is just superior. HE-500 do have a more forwarded midrange though (details in midrange are easier to spot).

Hi -

I was really impressed when I heard the HD 800 again yesterday and would like to have one (see my below ad). Does anyone here have any qualms about having the HD800 as their only headphone?

My only qualm is mid bass impact for trance/j-pop type music. I think it's Godlike for almost everything else, haha. It gets the job done, but I do feel a larger quantity of mid bass would be more appealing for certain  music with electronics.

I listened to a Shpongle track (in Lossless format) with the HD 800 yesterday and whilst it was 'thinner' sounding than the LCD-2, the sound with the HD 800 didn't seem to be lacking.

Get a 100-120ohm adapter and try your amp > 800 using the IEC spec.

Yea, I think it's a matter of personal taste as well as amp and DAC selection. My amp is very neutral which probably is not helping. I do feel as though my ears have been adjusting to the GS-1 the past few days. I don't hear it as much of a lack of bass impact anymore, but I do think that I may get that feeling again once my W3000ANV arrives tomorrow.

Either way, I cannot see myself getting rid of the HD800 unless an HD850 hits the market. :)

Reassuring to read that, ZenErik.

I've always found that idiosyncratic sound differences with headphones can disappear when you stop comparing one headphone to another and accept the headphone you have.

I've been using only the HD800s the past 3 months. The only qualm I have is now I want to upgrade my portable rig. Every time I listen to the Westone 2s I know it can be so much better. .
