Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

The discussion about which is better will fill a thread with 20.000 or more replies without result....

Maybe I didn’t express myself well. I don’t really want to know if the the hd660S is better than the hd600 or viceversa. I just want to know how they compare to each other. You know like more bass, less bass, more extended highs, mids, sound stage. Not necessarily which one is better than the other, but the sound differences. I think this will help me having a little more perspective.

I hope this makes sense.

I ordered the HD660s today! :L3000: I tried stacking the 10% newsletter code with the online 15% code and it wouldn’t work. The 15% code is apparently dead now. I talked Sennheiser into a 20% code though... and pulled the trigger. Looking forward to getting them.

My one month old HD650 are now up for sale.... since I have some Massdrop HD6XX coming soon to replace those.

Factor in the price of the HD600 you will be needing too (maybe even HD700?!?) You will need the lot before any reasonable decision can be made regarding long term preference:wink:

I'm currently trying out the Acoustic Research AR-H1 and am quite intrigued, but would like to compare them to some Sennheisers.
Who has some, is in San Francisco and would like to meet up?

Received mine and returned them just outside of 48 hours. Clamping force was too extreme to tolerate. Velour pads were far itchier than either my 600s or 650s. Tonal improvements were certainly noticeable, especially at the upper end. Lower end has been cleaned up nicely, but I didn't perceive any additional quantity of bass - simply better articulation and less overwhelming of the mids. Certainly more of an all-rounder now.

The clamping force is really easy to resolve though. The headband bends with little effort and even overnight between books or something gets rid of the hard clamp. I felt the same way when I first got them but similar experience with 650 and that was totally fine after a short period of break in.

I respectfully disagree. I just have a huge head...lol. 7 7/8 hat size. I've owned 2 sets of HD650 cans through the years. The first set I broke trying to "break in" the headband clamping force. The replacement set I kept for 5 years and worked them in more gradually, but a lot of that was pad compression, truth be told. The second set was still uncomfortably tight on my lower jaw after 5 years of solid use. The HD800 was perfect - it distributes the weight and pressure almost perfectly.

I guess my head is a little small. I can fit the HD6XX better than HD800. The HD800 slides when I move my head. I'll get dekoni earpad for HD800 so that it fits better.

Even then.... still would need the HD800s to make the most reasonable decision. :dt880smile:

Unfortunate news from Sennheiser this morning. The HD660s is backordered.
