Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

your hearing is worse than a measurement rig's. A measurement rig isn't affected by emotion.
I don't have emotions.
I have and use both and I don't give a dime which one is better or not.
Measurements are a rough guide.
You have to listen by yourself.
I challenge everyone to A/B this two and tell us about the bass.
Regarding the various targets, well they are just like women...

Another graph...different results. Could find others with even different results. Headphone / Speaker graphs are helpful but not the end-all be-all

Each individual should just listen to them and decide which they like better. Or maybe some of us like each of them equally but for different music, moods, etc!

AND...even if Crinacle's graph was deemed the 'Gold Standard' of all HD660 vs HD650 comparisons, the statement "The end. HD650 is better in every way." may be true for you but certainly not for others...as we all hear differently, have different sound signature preferences, etc.

The end. HD650 is better in every way.

that graph isn't even matched to 1 kHz

Chuckle...

Crinacle's graph isn't even matched at 2300Hz

It's a comparison between two set of cans measured with the same methodology. So for this methodology / set of measurement conditions, the 660s are slightly more emphasized between ~100 to 2000Hz as compared to the HD650s.

Other differences between the two are evident as well but the broader point is that measurements can vary depending on the setup and it's the comparison that matters.

More importantly a blanket declarative statement such as "The end. HD650 is better in every way." seems to assume that we all hear the same (physically and psycho-acoustically) which is a false assumption.
That said, glad you like the HD650s so much. :beerchug:

I do as well! In fact, they're the only set of cans I've repurchased because I got rid of them when clearing out some Senns and Beyers along with an OTL amp. Glad I got a second set and won't make that mistake again.

Even so, I still choose the 660s over the 650s...sometimes -- and vice versa!

Ok...apparently I'm missing the sarcasm in your posts as one might interpret a statement like "The end. HD650 is better in every way." to indicate that you like it more than the 660s.

Unless, of course, you don't like either of them.

If that's the case, I'm struggling with the purpose of your engagement with this thread.

HD650 does not meet my treble transparency standards. HD660S misses it by a few light years.

Ok...thanks for the clarification. Hope you enjoy your music with cans that meet your standards!

It sounds how it measures. Acceptable, but treble lumpiness leads to grainy sound and poor imaging.
Now that’s really funny. I could not disagree more.

When doing A/B in a store between my own HD650 and the HD660s, I found that the HD660s had better imaging and soundstage then the HD650.

But the vocals had a very slightly hollow sound… and it was not as veiled.
Also on the plus side, - it did not need to run balanced from my Ifi Hip Dac. Or in other words, it sounded the same balanced and single ended from the Hip Dac. – unlike the HD650.

So, I’m still stuck with my HD650 until something better comes along that I like more.

PS, - My HD650’s are my “go to bed and fall asleep” headphones. Great and laid back.

Etymotic ER4SR and ER2SE destroy HD650 at the same game

I'm right now testing a new pair of 650s (I had a pair like 12 years ago and sold it) and also have the 660s on the way from Amazon. I will do an A/B test, not looking at graphs, just my ears and the one that sounds better to me will stay and the other one back to Amazon!! Right now, I'm in love with the 650s.

Similar...they're my 'Shuffle' headphones. Good across a wide variety of music genres and recording quality levels

At being neutral, maybe - if that's your cup of tea when it comes to IEM's. I like my Fiio FH5s when it comes to IEM's.
