Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I didn't get to demo long enough to get a gauge on the soundstage of the Lyr and was using unfamiliar headphones
What impressed me was the clarity, but with some of the dimensional aspects and 2nd order harmonics associated with tubes

my list of wants:

--Schiit Lyr
--Replace stock cable on HD650's
--Hifiman HE-400
--Sony MDR MA900 (want to hear what 70mm drivers are like)
--Audio Technica ATH AD900x or the 1000x (or the older AD900)

The signature of the lyr sounds like the signature of the LCD-2. Since you are comparing lcd2+lyr against your setup+hd650,
Are you sure it ain't the LCD-2 making the magic?

if there is any quibble i had with the LYR, its the sounstage, its not the biggest that i crave...nitpicking, spoilt by my audiogd. :p
But the sound is so rich n involving paired with the 650 tat i soon got lost in the music.
Forget what i said, go get one.

What tubes were in use to contribute to the narrow sound stage? With the stock tubes the sound stage is not very expansive.  I used to think the same thing until i found the right tubes that gave me the mix of all of the aspects that I thought were missing, the Lyr responds well to tube rolling.

HMMM....maybe it was the LCD-2??  I really liked the LCD-2 with the LYR
and the also the HD800 and the LYR....

At CHI AXPONA i had the chance to hear LCD-2 on three different amps. I need to go back and look at pics to remember some of the combos...I think the new Fostex, EF-6, Lyr, a Peachtree integrated, and some others were at Chi Axpona..

the LCD-3 really stood out as something special...it has everything

also demo'd the EF-6 with the HE-6, equally awesome

the HD650's are not going anywhere....still my favorite...I should focus on changing the stock cable on my hd650's

Can't read through 808 pages, but figured I'd post recent impressions. I had been listening to 650's through ipod touch 3, HiSound Anniv 3, liked them but didn't find it quite up to the hype (the HiSound was better-likely because it has more power-but I hate the UI). Recently got the National amp, makes a really big difference. The iPod/LOD/650;s are a really nice set up. (works nicely for the A900x as well, though they manage OK even without it). Had been tempted by the Lyr impressions, but I don't generally sit at my computer or stereo these days, like a portable I can knock around with, lay down in bed and listen, and these tube jobs seem too confining. Really happy with the purchase.

I did look through some of the thread, some people were wondering about walking around outside with the 650's. Assuming it's relatively quiet (as it generally is here in the 'burbs where I live), I have no problem outside with them-like to use them walking my dog. I'm older than the college kids who were posting, not too worried if I look cool or geeky...I did go into a coffee shop in the winter wearing them, the twenty year old (or so) girl working first complemented me on my cool earmuffs, then realized they were headphones, and went on and on about how she loved them, so maybe they're not as geeky in public as some assume (might have come in handy, along with my dog, with the ladies if I were single and 40 years younger...)

How do you like the cable? That's one upgrade I've been tossing around in my head for a while, can't really make up my mind.

Edit: nvm, stumbled upon your reviews

The only downside to Toxic Cables is the lack of instant gratification...
